Doug Maclean's stubbornness put that team into a deeper and deeper rebuild from their very first draft. When you look at that dual expansion draft and see the dichotomy between them and the Wild.
Of course yesterday it spread like wild fire that they missed out on prime Chris Pronger because they didn't want to trade a prospect that ended up with two points in his NHL career.
Pronger is now joins the ranks of "almost Blue Jackets" with Kopitar, Couturier, and Vanek. Add those names with some of the players they actually did have in the late 00s like Nash, Brassard, Voracek, and Methot.
You have to feel for the fans, that team should have been regularly competitive from about 2008 onwards. Perhaps the lost pick that became Coots isn't as high, but maybe a playoff bubble Columbus team that didn't have to trade for Jeff Carter, instead gets to select Ohio native JT Miller.
Lowest of the low-is these poor guys have to play home games in ohio-it's a hockey black-hole!!And such a dump of a place to live!
THG amazing job on the weight loss, i didnt notice it until i rewatched a video from 2019 and holy youve come a long way, great job keep up the good work!!
Columbus's low points?
Anytime they didn't make the playoffs, or got taken out by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Bluejackets fans are just suckers.
There is no other way around it.
Have you done a video on the best final season of a player retiring that year. I think it might be an interesting video if you haven’t done one before.
Leclaire was actually great for Columbus – the only reason why he didn't reach his full potential was the fact that this guy was a living reincarnation of Super Dave Osborne
Jackets fan here, great video! Honestly I'd put a lot of the teams early downfalls on management and not finding a good core of guys to stick around for a while
2011-12 was definitely the low point as far as seasons go, even though I think we had less points in 2001-02. Can hardly blame Nash for leaving after that dumpster fire of a season.
Losing Panarin still makes me want to scream. I think the NHL needs a franchise tag system like the NFL has. Sure we could have traded him for picks, but man we would be a contender NOW with him and that defense.
It’s funny you mention Colorado. When we came into the league they were at the height of their powers and it literally took us years to beat them. We could be the Wings at least once a year usually but never the Avs. Small correction though they were never in our division.
Don''t feel bad. It's never been a better time to be a Columbus fan, the future is bright.
As a Blue Jackets fan I can say that this past free agency period broke my heart. I knew Bob should leave because he was asking for way too much money, and he was too old to be giving him that long of a contract. My hope was that we would use our money to sign Panarin to an 8 year deal, but realistically I knew I wanted it to at least be 4 years because I knew JK wouldn’t ever pull the trigger on an 8 year deal. It just stings because with teams like Boston, Pittsburgh, and Washington getting older it made me feel like if we kept Panarin we could be true contenders for the next 5 years with the core we have. Of course, I didn’t get what I wanted, but I still love the core we have put together, and this year has been super fun to watch.
you have to do a oilers flames rivalry video
CBJ trending up, feel a lot better now losing Panarin and Bob then I did when we traded away Jeff Carter who we gave up Voracek and the pick that became Courtier.
Doug MacLean is probably the biggest force in CBJ staying down for so long. The man did not listen to any voice outside of his own arrogant mind.
I'd agree with your assessment, it's fair. This team has been mired in mediocrity for the bast majority of its existence. I think around 2016 they really turned a corner.
Would I love to have Panarin on the wing and Bob between the pipes? Yeah absolutely. But it just wasn't in the cards. Winning that playoff round in the way we did was the most important thing we ever did. That might seem pretty sad to some, but it energized our entire city.
everyday is a franchise low for columbus.
Jakub Voráček was the biggest lost asset. they don't have any luck picking Russians in round 1 in the draft
Winner of next stanley cup right here heeeells yeeaah
The first decade seems to be their low but the franchise has appeared to turn the corner. Need a long playoff run to rid the stigmas.
I blame only one man for all of the early struggles, Scott Howson. Terrible GM they held onto him too long. Glad jarmo is around
0:43 I find that too 😂
