  1. The only leverage they have is “come on Tavares…you love Toronto…right??”

  2. The Leafs I believe have very limited leverage with Tavares and Marner on contract extensions. That said, both are members of a core-five (other members of which are William Nylander, Morgan Rielly and AM34) the era of which has featured a single playoff series win: back in 2023 against the Bolts. No conference final hopefully will mean Tavares and Marner are GONE this off-season.

  3. What if this year and last year was swapped? Just because it's a contract year, doesn't mean the offer should go up

  4. Pretty sure he's leaving Canada. Don't forget he is still dealing with legal issues with CRA.

  5. They stripped his "C" and Leafs don't seem super urgent to sign him. Wouldn't be shocked if he is gone especially if they lose in round 1 again.

  6. Lmao….these tsn guys are dumb……of course it's a contract year for tavares….yes, hes always done this….but he's playing to get signed by another team…probably nashville at 8.5 mill for 4 years

  7. Leverage or no leverage, JT, has played solid, productive hockey, all season long. Resign Johnny for 2-3 years at 4-6 mil per? 2nd or 3rd line Center in the Fall? (2025-2026 season)

  8. What is this leverage ppl speak of when JT has put up numbers on a contract year and he can walk to one of 31 other teams in the off season for his final payday?

Leverage is when his point totals aren’t great and he’s begging the Leafs to take him back on some bargain contract…

  9. 3 Years max at 5 million per year. Leafs need to focus on signing Knies to a 10 year contract. Knies is a future captain who does everything well.

  10. The Leafs overpaid Tavares the past seven years. Offer him three years at $3M AAV.

  11. Tavaras woke up on his contract year, and to be honest, signing him, I think, cost us a lot of young, talented players, and we still have got nowhere with him on the team

  12. The next contract is the time for Tavares to give back and agree to accept less money than he is worth so to help the team compete better for the cup.

  13. He's been overpaid the whole time. He's been in Toronto and he never should have been the captain infact he was an awful captian. Of course he's having a great year his contract year but he's old and I'd probably let him walk unless he signs a team friendly deal.

  14. He already took a discount to come to Toronto I think he will take a discount again, he’s gonna get 7×4

  15. He's playing great because it's the end of his contract. He has no playoff success. Tavares and Marner need to go. They can use that money and beef up the defense.

  16. I see Tavares leaving especially if the Leafs are out early. He can get three years at 8 Mil minimum. If Canucks have any brains and that is questionable, they will go after Tavares if he is there July 1st.

  17. At least this year Toronto has goaltending. Its unfair to blame the core but fans will blame the core. It will be a mistake to lose JT or Marner. In 1994 after the Leafs lost in Round 3, they made a big trade to get to the next level? What happened? They went backward and never did get any better. Players never win until they do. There are many great players who never win a cup, but it does not mean they could not have won. They just didn't.

  18. I would sign John Tavares to 3 years at 5 million per or 2 years at 6 million per. Anything over 6 million at his age is getting risky especially if you factor in term, age 35, 36, 37……
