Boston should absolutely tank it again for next season and draft McKenna; but knowing Sweeney/Neely, they wouldn't even draft him. They go after so NCAA-bound player who is projected to go in the 40s. Their constant reaching on players at the draft is infuriating. They traded Ullmark so they could get into the 1st round this past season. They drafted Laturneau (spelling?) who went an impressive 30+ games at Boston College this past season without scoring a single goal. Certainly not first round pick pedigree there. They also reached on lots of other players in the first (Beecher shouldn't have been a first round pick; Frederick probably shouldn't have been, Zboril and Senyshen obviously shouldn't have been. Vaaakinainen probably shouldn't have been…etc.). Boston is not going anywhere until Cam/Don are gone.
And no; Sacco (the almost all of the current coaching staff) should not be returning. Line combos are really off, in-game adjustments are terrible, both PP and PK are near the bottom of the league
With the right moves they can get back to a playoff contender but I think they are a ways off from cup contender.
Any team that has a base of a top 5-10 player, top 5-10 Dman and if swayman can get back to what he was as a top 10 goalie has a chance.
They have a ton of cap space so get a legit forward or two and I can see it turning around
Most likely scenario with a 'quick fix' is Boston is a middle of the pack team that maybe gets a wild card spot. Unless Swayman starts stealing a ton of games, I don't see what this team has to look forward to. No exciting prospects. Some decent UFAs this year but there will be lots of competition.
as a leaf fan of 25 years i know that quick turn arounds are rare. Boston historically has had good management which has helped them stay above the playoff line. but every team faces a rebuild at some point.
The fact Pasta is putting up the numbers he is, while having 0 talent around him, shows how good he actually his.
The Blues retool has succeeded earlier than we thought. Blues have a lot of talent yet to show up. Our Cup window will be at least the next 5 years. Monty has a great opportunity for success.
Maybe the Canucks will trade for Lindholm or Middlestat 😂
Has Zadorov been asked to do more than he could handle with McEvoy and Lindholm out?
Also quietly hoping the best for Fraser Minton.
As a non Boston fan. Please embrace the rebuild. I wish they started about 5 years ago
If they embrace full rebuild, then Pasta and maybe McAvoy will want out. Smack dab in the middle of their primes, they can't afford to waste 3-5 seasons on a rebuild when they're winning-caliber players. So, if that's the route they have to go….expect to see a blockbuster or two either this draft or next. Also, do NOT keep Sacco, but I really don't want to see Sweeney or Neely stick around, either.
Were all going to be so surprised and pissed off when Boston wins the draft lottery and gets to draft Shaefer lol
As a long time Habs fan, nothing makes me happier than seeing the Bruins suck, except maybe seeing the Leafs join them.
Tanking for Misa
Sorry, but the Jacob's are investors not public panderers.
I think the biggest mistake was firing Jim Montgomery
As a Tampa fan, seeing the bruins downfall brings a smile to my face
Couldn't be happier to see this the most entitled franchise in hockey!!
2 years removed from the best regular season in NHL history, man hockey is such a wild sport lol
Boston should have rebuilt when Bergeron and Krejci retired. Getting a 2nd round pick for Marchand can only be considered a loss, even though they clearly did him a favour by sending him to a real contender on the cheap, plus retaining 50%.
New coach, they will market as a retool because owners only care about putting fans in seats. Hoping they have a down year because that’s the only way Sweeney and Neely get fired. It’s time for a change of scenery at the top. Fired 2 good coaches in a row!
Probably should go the Montreal route. Find a coach who embodies the spirit of the team, and invest a couple years into top prospects. Losing hall debrusk krejci can be fixed with prospects. Finding another Bergeron is just unlikely but try to find him young instead of selling off limbs for potential of guys who have had some bad seasons
Neely and Sweeney are always going to be remembered in Boston. Number 8 was my favorite player growing up, that being said, when Neely and Sweeney became part of the front office, I really wasn’t a fan. It’s not the coaches! Monty, Cassidy, are arguably Julien great coaches in the NHL, it falls on the organization and what is going on in that front office. In my opinion! I hope they lose the rest of the season! Here’s to a better pick 😂
Plus trading Carlo doesn’t help the defense
Pick 1.01 🙏🏻
Blues fan living in Boston. Happy days!
They then proceed to kick Carolina up and down the ice
Jinxed it.
@6:40 the most accurate statement The Hockey Guy has every made.😅
Pasta has had a point in the bruins last 11 goals .
Problem for the Bruins is that Pastrnak and McAvoy don't play at their best in the playoffs. Both of them are turnover machines and McAvoy has looked positively lost in his own end the last few years. Your paid stars have to be good in the playoffs in a hard cap league. Sweeney has handed out too many contracts to players that have not offered enough in return.
