Most Caps fans seems confident the team can just switch it on, after being mediocre for quite a while. I'm not that confident it's that easy to just go back to winning ways, just because matches suddenly means something. I'll say Canadiens in 6 and be pleasently surprised if Capitals will advance, rather than being overconfident in advance.

About the Habs, yes they ended up on the fumes. It should worry me more than it does tho. Maybe because they are young and inexperimented but also, they are young and inexperimented so they'll get their energy back way faster than it does when you're my age. And they don't know the NHL playoffs, they don't.. 😮
I don't know how different this Habs team really is from the covid final? In key position except goaltending it very similar or better. Suzuki was a big part, so was Caufield right out of college (Sound Familiar), Anderson played a hell of a round against Vegas. The defense is worse without Weber for sure but honestly Hutson is on another planet than Petry, Gallagher was a warrior, and he has a career revival recently (Finally healthy). Tatar barely played. They miss Lehkonen magic for sure. And Danault, but Tofoli is a wash with Newhook. So a lot of the current core was around, and they had to eat crap ever since… You think Suzuki and Caufield were not pissed off by not getting a four nation invite. This is a very hungry leadership group that had a taste of playoff glory once and they want more. The wildcard is Demidov and whatever management will decide to unleash some of the guys in Laval that should have played in the NHL this year. I think the round is closer than the whole seasons stats would let on.
Demidov was born December of 2005, several months after Ovechkin began his NHL career. Insane.

For the team numbers. Remember, Laine came in something like 3 months into the season and for the 3.18 GAA Those early season blowouts also tilt things towards the higher end… Things got a lot better in the second half…

For Hutson, 60 assists with only 6 goals. I wonder if that's some kind of record. Jeff Norton used to have stats like that when he played for the Islanders, but I don't think it was ever that extreme.

Team Russia would have been insane and would have had a chance to take gold.
