The problem is that the defense isn't good. The forwards aren't physical enough and aren't tough to play against. Holl should not be in the NHL. Chairot should be in the bottom pair until his contract is up. AJ was okay but still a rookie. Compher is bad, Bergerren wasn't good and he's not physical at all. Motte, Rasmussen, etc… just not good enough.
Wings need a pest, a tough guy and a top pairing LD to play with Seider. Next year wont be much different. 2027 will be the big jump as Talbot, Chairot, Holl, Mrazek, etc… are off the books. They may be able to move on from Compher and or Copp.
Berggren is definitely capable of playing on the 4th line at least

Asp broke all defensive records for Swedish d.men.…..poormans Makar. Not so sure. Very good player.
We were still waiting on the defense prospects abd young forward prispects to develop . The veteren guys they brought in were just stop gaps until that occurred. Yzerman brougjt in guys as "stop gaps" the year before and they over achieved by scoring to much, which made some fans think we were farther along (in the rebuild: 23-24) then we actually were. Yzerman has been hinting ever since he started that this rebuild wasn't going to get good until like 2029. I specifically heard him or Draper use 2029 and 2030 as dates we might be relevent again. NOTE- the so called fans and pidcast guys like Sam Flannel, Brian Fisher, either chose to hold their hands over their ears or ignore it. (Not sure???). So we can assume that upper mgnt. didn't expect to make playoffs until around 2026-27-28, etc. ( I think that is much more of a logical time line if you just listen to Draper and Steve Y. and their comments. Just look at there long term developnent stratagy. THEN compare that with the veteran moves that they signed as (obvious) stop gaps. Most were NOT guys that wer "ever" supposed to make us cup contenders (right now)i.e., Smith, Mrazek,etc. They were stop gaps, while they wait on the drafted future core and trade pieces. Again, listen ro the man (SY) when He speaks; and quit trying to pretend his free agent goals are your goals . They usually are not. HE IS PLAYING THE LONNNGGG GAME. ; you are all thinking and playing the SHORT game !!!!! I'm sure he's aware you all will think that sucks. That's why he never loudly stated his time lines. He did not want to get verbally attacked by media people. I ha very hopeful that he will at least bring in a couple key players this summer, so we can begin to progress to the next level. 🙏
