   The cap is going up, but cap space is a premium for this team to add an Andersson, Ekblad, or Ehlers. This team might roll with Levi and Ullmark to save that money. Soogard will clear waivers so he could become a depth option. Forsberg should only get 1.5Mx1 or he goes.

   I think G resigns at $4m per year for 2 years. Saves the team 2m or so.

   I would not go higher than 2.5 for one year for G! They need some toughness, speed and a goal scorer, Giroux is getting slow, and should be properly placed on the fourth line or third at best!

    When Giroux was a FA after Florida, I believe it was reported no other team offered him a contract.

    Contextually, no more than $2.5-3mill. I understand the veteran aspect, but it’s not like any other team was offering him a bag…

    Giroux slowed down significantly at the back half of the season and his FO performance in the playoffs, he was almost unplayable.

    Here's the issue. Claude Giroux, I get his leadership is undeniable, but he's 37 years old, his point production was gone down, and is not the right fit anymore on that top line. They need to upgrade the top 6 on the right side, and you aren't paying someone 4M+ for someone whose best days are way behind him, and would likely be on the third line. Thats way too much for him. Claude Giroux was a key piece, but there are other guys who can carry this team the rest of the way. You still have Perron, you still have Nick Cousins, and Michael Armadio. The team veteran wise, is fine as it is, even if Giroux tests the open market. Right now, this team is technically middle of the pack. The expectations will be higher, and you have to find that guy to play and produce with Stutzle and Tkachuk, and Giroux isnt it. Not anymore. If Giroux takes 3M> on a one year deal to stay in Ottawa, then you can put him on the Pinto line and the cost is very good. You are gonna need a guy like a Ryan Donato or a JJ Peterka on that line, which is an upgrade to Giroux.

    Forsberg..gone. No way he's coming back, and Leevi comes in. Enough said there. Leevi has earned the backup spot, and its time he learned from a guy like Linus Ullmark. 4Z on this contract, had 2 meh seasons, and one terrible one. Hes no where near the .917 goalie we had before the major injury. You need the backup to give you the chance to win you games, and his .901, .890 and .902 seasons hovering close to the 3GAA is not what's going to do it. You also can't ignore the fact even Travis Green did not want to start 4Z on the 9-game trip, and elected to go with Leevi. Green has more confidence in Leevi, and will get the spot, so I disagree to re-sign him. Forget Sogaard. He hasnt looked good, and has been through a lot of injuries. I dont think he takes the step up over Leevi. Thing is you cant keep pampering goaltenders. If Leevi cant develop anymore in Belleville, he's ready to come up.

    Adam Gaudette I re-sign and I take him off the 4C position and put him on the wing with either Stutzle or Cozens. He's a shooter and the 4th line is not his best suit. Most of his goals were on the wing with Stutzle, and was most effective on the wing and you can technically move him up and down the roster on the right side. Thats where he should be and would have a very good contract, and bring up Jan Janik to take the 4C slot.

    Travis Hamonic is obvious. Gone. No other way around it. with Mantipalo re-signed, no reason to keep Hamonic with Yakemchuk waiting in the wings.

    Nick Cousins I definitely re-sign. I like him on the 4th line and that leadership will help that will be a very good contract.

    On a side note, Fabian Zetterlund Im not so sure about. He's a good player, but I dont know if he fits the need as he was completely snake-bit for goals unlike anything I haven seen from someone who had 17G in 49 games before being traded to Ottawa where he had 2G in 20 games, and he had 24 goals last season. If there is a potential trade to be had with a JJ Peterka and maybe a 2nd for Zetterlund and a 1st, I think its a trade you have to consider, considering Peterka would be a far better fit than Zetterlund, and be a lot more productive, who can also move up and down the top 6. I like Zetterlund, but I didnt find he had a fit anywhere on the roster, for some odd reason. However that happens where good players just don't fit.
