  1. no mention of Ziggy Palffy or Pierre Turgeon?? Turgeon was captain too, annual 100 point player. I had his jersey 😉

  2. Mike Bossy 573 goals in the clutching and grabbing, enforcer required NHL. Also, in an era in which the organization was adrift (fisherman included) don't forget a 5-10 180 pound 40 goal 40 assist player in Ziggy Palffy or a player traded away by Don Maloney (grrr) who scored 500 NHL goals in Pierre Turgeon (freakin Dale Hunter).

  3. If I watched NHL in the 70's and 80's then I would have probably had Billy Smith as my favorite player of those decades, he seems like a fascinating person/player.

  4. I knew leaving Nassau to go back to Brooklyn was so jinx too

Even as a pens fan I knew it was bad luck

  5. My All Time Islanders Starting Six:
    Goal: Billy Smith
Defense: Denis Potvin – Stefan Persson
Forwards: Pat LaFontaine – Bryan Trottier – Mike Bossy

  6. My list of all time greatest Islanders 1. Mike Bossy 2. Bryan Trottier 3. Denis Potvin 4. Billy Smith 5. Pat Lafontaine 6. Pierre Turgeon 7. John Tavares 8. John Tonelli 9. Butch Goring 10. Clark Gillies Honerable Mention Brent Sutter, Bob Bourne, Kenny Jonnson, Ziggy Palffy, Patrick Flatley, Bob Nystrom. Some more they were an Islanders Felix Potvin, Craig Ludwig, Ryan Smyth, Dennis Seidenberg and Ron Hextall. In the future we can see Barzal, Dobson, Wahlstrom and Sorokin on the board. Presuming they live up to their potential.

  7. The one person who should have his name mentioned is Jimmy Devallano, head scout of the Islanders in the '70's. He scouted and signed Denis Potvin, Bryan Trottier, Mike Bossy, Clark Gillies, John Tonelli, Ken Morrow, and Brent Sutter. Not only did he build the Islanders Dynasty but the Islanders drafting fell apart after he left. Devallano went to Detroit to become GM and draft Steve Yzerman. He brought over Sergei Fedorov, Slava Fetisov, Slava Kozlov, Igor Larionov and Vladimir Konstantinov. Devallano built two Dynasties. Maybe HE is the Greatest Islander of all-time, without him the lslanders might not have had a Dynasty. Why is Devellano never mentioned, his name should be next to Bill Torrey. Islander fans and Hockey scholars should give him more credit.

  8. Bossy was a target, back then boarding was a lot more prevalent. A player would be fined “which was most likely paid by the organization” and a few games off. But to take out a sniper like Bossy it was worth it.

  9. Bossy had 573 goals in 10 seasons with the 10th being an injury shortened last season. No injuries and a 20 year career; Bossy would be the only 1000 goal scorer in NHL history.
