On the one hand, it's not like the Canucks in their current state were drawing a veteran coach. But in reality, the system Tocchet, Foote and Gonchar had in place wasn't the problem. It wasn't the system that prevented them from scoring goals. Who are the scorers on this team? It can't just all be at the feet of EP40. He's got his responsibilities, obviously, but even if he's an 80-100 point player, who else on this team is scoring goals? Who's the sniper? Who is he passing the puck to? DeBrusk is fine, but he's inconsistent. Same with Boeser, and he's likely gone, and for good reason. You can't blame the system when you don't have the personnel. And it's not like teams are lining up to trade a top 6 sniper to the Canucks for nothing. They could bring in Scotty Bowman in his prime and he couldn't do anything with this roster. Rebuild, draft and develop properly.

Marty St. Louis had no head coaching experience beyond coaching 14 year olds.

Hughes pulling a McDavid by asking for a coach he knows well. Don't think Vancouver can pull off what Edmonton did but I could be wrong
