Matthews should not be the highest paid player in the NHL and he should not be captain. What were they thinking. Heads need to roll. Lots of leaf heads, both players and management/coaching.

I hope, to send a message to Morgan, Rielly, John Tavares, William Nylander and other non-AM34 non-Marner players, Coach Berube, for game six of the Panthers-Leafs 2025 playoff series, will bench Marner and AM34. Regardless of whether Berube decides to implement that recommendation of mine, I see, should the Leafs lose their 2025 conference semifinal, with this season yet another conference-final-or-bust one, among players still under contract to that team:
– Matt Knies, Chris Tanev, Anthony Stolarz, Vyacheslav Peksa and Artur Akhtyamov (the last two goalies under contract via minor-league affiliates) as definite keepers
– Tavares and Marner as players the Leafs should trade (similarly to how they’d acquired the rights to Chris Tanev) or, if neither consents to being moved, just let walk as unrestricted free agents
– any player under contract, if I haven’t named him, as one the Leafs should consider moving on from
Do I see the Leafs likely to win their 2025 conference semifinal? I would like to believe they will but with consecutive dud performances, I see even winning game six as at best a coin flip.

The core is the problem. I'm not a leaf fan but take a real look they need to let marner go and Tavares and build around Mathews. I don't see them going back to Toronto for game seven. Hot take guy is stop lying to yourself. In Van fan I know how you feel. At least management can help Toronto get better players. Here in Van the owner doesn't care about fans.

while edmonton did lose the first two games in round 1 and looked awful, mcdavid and draisaitl were still skating hard and doing everything they could to get their team a win. i dont see that from any leafs core player save for nylander

Toews and Kane were on Entry level contracts and on cups and got paid. Brad Marchand, McKinnon, Crosby all took paycuts so they Management could bring in other great players, but with the core 4 or 5 including Reilly, anyone take a hometown discount, it's alway been Money first. Should have had Marner's agent in the pressbox and Brad should have asked "You want 14 Million for that pass that led to the 3rd Panthers goal" and now the leafs have lost Minten and 3-4 1st rounders. If Mathews was injured should have used LTIR broght him back in playoffs and we could have been in a stone or Kucherov situation.
Playoff hockey is different than regular season hockey, and not all players can play both. The Leafs have a bunch of those 1 way regular season players. Please hockey gods – don't let Marner end up on the Bruins!

As a brand new fan, it was mid season before my friends and I started commenting and how Matthews seems to disappear in big moments. It didn't take us long to realize that and we didn't know anything about the league.
