No team will offer Tavares more than 6 million a year at 35. They'll make Marner an offer. It's up to him if he wants to leave.

Leafs should do a sign and trade with Marner to get some assets back in return. Resign Tavares at 5 Million if he's willing to stay for that.

Dude has played 2 years in the league. Nathan McKinnon signed for 6.3M X 7 years after playing 3 full years in the league when the salary Cap was 73M. Now it is 87M approximately 20% higher. Do the math. Nathan McKinnon is likey the 2nd best player in the NHL, paid his dues and earns 12.6M. Based on these numbers and years of experience and ability that makes Knies a Max 4M dollar player.

This is why Leafs fans deserve everything they get. Why would you want Taveres back? He is part of the problem. At 35 he is already slow as molasses and was totally exposed in the playoffs and it’s not going to get worse as he ages. They need a culture change and he does not have the mentality to compete in the playoffs and it bleeds over to the rest of the team. There is a reason in a 15 year career that Tavares have never gotten past the 2nd round.
There is not an ounce of proof that Taveres was offered 13 million a year by San Jose or any other team, it’s a complete myth. That’s what agents do to drive up the price for their clients and the Leafs totally fell for it…and thier fans too apparently. At that time in 2018, he would have been the highest paid player by 2+ million a year while not even being a top 20 player. What team in their right mind would have done that for a player who has not been really close to scoring 50 goals or 100 points.
They need to dump Reilly and is $7.5 million.
The Leafs should keep Mitch Marner and let Joe Bowen go.

Here what we do… We sign JT to 5 years $22M (AAV $4.5M) contract paying him $8M this year and next and and then $2M for the last 3 years, that way he can earn while he can still play and then he can go to Robida Island and they can trade the last years of his salary to a CAP floor team like the Kraken for nothing so the can hit the cap floor.

Every leaf except for a few like domi, and stolarz should take a major pay cut.
I think if the Leafs are smart sign him to another 3yr deal for $4.5-$5 Mil, after a 58pt season & 9pt playoff run this year. Play him with Papi again & let's see what happens. Let Knies prove his worth even more, than the Leafs will know 100%. Then sign him long term for great money.
Let Marner and Taveras walk and use the money to bring in playoff grit.!!
