  1. Pelley just saved 7 schmill/year not resigning Shanny and will trim management saving more. Smart guy – knows lots about golf too it seems. Plus he only just got here so can't speak to last 10 years.Meet the new boss same as the old boss

  2. Toronto needs to bring in players with a killer instinct, a winning pedigree, sacrifice, and accountability! The Leafs challenging in the Finals, for Lord Stanley, in the next 1-3 years, paramount?

  3. Shanahan was far too involved for the Leafs to have any kind of success. Also good to see Pelley at least speaks about wanting to win things, refreshing if anything

  4. Like number one draft picks. Bettman has the final say. NHL the best game ever controlled by this nip

  5. First change that is needed is Arena atmosphere, worst in the League. Best is the League is Dallas, its crazy after they score, with the fans going wild and all that green is just too cool.

  6. Pelley didn’t say that much about the Maple Leafs. He did give his support behind the GM and Chief. Other than that he talked about the other teams under the MLSE umbrella.

  7. I don’t think you can blow up the Leafs and stay competitive. You have to replace Marners point production. You should give Tavares a short contract at reasonable terms. Maybe 2 X $5 million

  8. Toronto lacks chemistry between the players. There is too much focus on core 4, which is a distraction from the total team, which leads to many passengers.

  9. Guys. the guy is a mouthpiece. What else were you expecting? I thought having a GM and President was dumb! Keep Marner, Matthews and Knies in tact. Don't resign Tavares and trade Nylander. They're both soft!

  10. The Leafs don’t really need to blow it up… but I would consider not having a captain.
Marner isn’t coming back. He doesn’t want to. But if you are willing to gamble on getting Brock Boeser alongside Nylander and Matthews, bring back JT, and add some grit in the middle/bottom 6, it’s the same quality of the Leafs team that almost beat Florida. A Leafs team that can beat Carolina, Tampa, and the Devils. Still, I’d go with 3 alternates next season (Matthews, Nylander, Tanev)

  11. Pressure is absolutely no excuse these guys are professional athletes who have everything to their disposal, this team does not click why cause again for the thousand time CORE 4 break them up and don't sign two of them and try to trade Matthews and get heavy players.

  12. The sad part is we would have won this series if Stolarz didn’t get hurt . We would’ve beat Carolina too. The media and fans now are going to push marner out and we won’t even make playoffs next year . All we need is a few tweaks

  13. Treliving better not be promoted. At beat he's a good GM..but hes made enormous mistakes on players at the individual lwvel

  14. There are zero excuses for the Leafs poor playoff performances over the years!! It has nothing to do with Division structures. I'm tired of all the excuses that constantly come up!! The Leafs lack passion period!!! Out with the old dogs and bring in some passionate players; example, Crosby, Marchand, Mcdavid, OV, and others. Get rid of Mathews and Marner who lack passion and never show up in the playoffs over the past 10 years!!!

  15. Too much pressure to win all this quick after bringing in new coach and GM. Had they planned it right they would be positioned stronger in a year or two and not lost so much at the trade deadline.

  16. Now us leaf fans dont know who rip up, in all fairness Shanahan did have 11 years, but he wasted too many with his Dubas thing, whatever that was. Just look as some of the trade/cap space giveaways who are doing well on other teams, sure it was the GM who traded them due to cap issues he created, then he tried to screw his own boss (lets not be forgetting the Babcock debacle either). While i am sure Shanahan did many good things behind the scenes, the ones that were out front and center damaged his reputation more than anything else, along with the constant playoff failures. It had to be done.

  17. Berube having a bigger role may mean there is hope that Marner can be persuaded to stay. Berube loves his play. But I doubt Marner would want to play in the toxic atmosphere anymore.

  18. I’m a Leaf fan from Pennsylvania since the 70’s. Many Leaf fans here have bled with with our brothers and sisters in Toronto since then.
We just want to say that the management seems to be our worst enemy in trades particularly and from here it seems to be overlooked.
Remember when we sent one of the fastest skaters in Russ Courtnall to Montreal for John Kordik?
Years later, a promising young Russian and a first round pick for a ten year veteran??!!
We love the Leafs, but we simply don’t understand some of the trades through the years…..

  19. Having a great core four is all well and good but if those four players are all soft then there's a problem. You need at least one or two of these key players to be hard nosed or all is lost!

  20. I'm really tired of fans shitting all over Marner. It's true that there were a few times that I saw Marner cough up the puck in front of the Leaf's net, but I kinda understand it. Since certain Panthers were attempting to splatter his brains along the boards, he had been cautious watching his back, because the referees were really screwing up. A lot of you say "it's playoff hockey and lots of penalties don't get called in the playoffs". That's 100% BS. Frivolous penalties do tend to be overlooked, and that's fine, but when players get mashed into the boards and they don't even have the puck, that MUST be acted upon. When players, on a breakaway get the defender wrapping their arm around them and drag them to the ice, that has to be addressed.

My issue is with McCabe. He has a real issue with seeing what is going on around him. He'll be so focused on where the puck is and totally miss that a player from the other team has taken an open position close to him, and winds up scoring.
    Carlo is ALMOST as bad.
They both have some moments where they shine, but that's expected since they are on the payroll: they better contribute something.

I recall (near end of regular season) when Tavares and McMan were on the same line. I believe that Craig was experimenting with the various permutations. I recall that line doing quite well, especially McMan. I don't recall JT and BM being on the same line during the playoffs. What happened with that?
I always was of the opinion that every Stanley Cup winning team had great goaltending. Last year (2023/24) when I saw that Samsonov was back I said "I guess Toronto won't be winning a cup this year."
This year, Stolarz was superb, and when he got hurt mid season, Woll did quite well. When it was getting closer to playoff time, the SportsNet panel were commenting on who they thought was going to start in net for the Leafs. As we know, Woll had an unproductive couple of games which made it easy for Craig to make the decision on who the starter will be
In summary, Toronto has a good team. Keep Marner, Knies and JT. If Auston were to be traded, I think Toronto would still be a good contender. I don't find Auston to be "Captain material". I see his goal scoring ability, but as a leader he doesn't have it. It was a mistake to demote JT to alternate. He had done a good job advocating for his team.
Get rid of McCabe and possibly Carlo. Although i like Rielly, I think it's time for him to go. When he was suspended, the Leafs didn't fold.
If Toronto could get someone who can mix it up with a-holes who are gunning for Leaf players, that would be worthwhile. What happened to Reaves? I didn't see him at all in the post-season.
