Misa is lower risk and high upside pick. Schaefer is more need, might be a better player but also higher risk. There are enough scenarios where the Sharks get Schaefer at 2. I'm not moving away from 2nd overall. The Sharks could offer a big time package, including their unprotected 1st for 2026, to try and get Schaefer or another elite d-man
Love hearing from the development management team. Great insight into the prospects. Wouldn’t mind getting Todd and the other staff on as much as able for updates and personal opinions. My kind of episode.
The difference between Misa and Schaefer at this point does not seem like two late firsts. Poor Sharks might just be stuck with Misa, oh darn
This is a wide ranging exploration of Sharks prospects with many players in a pool who want 5 to 10 jobs in the NHL (not sure what kind of openings Mike Grier moves will leave in Sharks roster). I expect Sharks to experiment with more new faces and stop using so many journeymen veterans. I expect Grier to stop trading away his best players at trade deadline this year because he does not need more draft choices, he needs partially developed players. Less rehabilitation projects (players getting a second chance) shoud follow from making sure new faces/rookies get more games and playing time. Not sure what Grier can do to speed up development of the next generation Sharks, but no one knows when the experimenting with new players with pay off. So many of these prospects are long shots who may well never play a game in NHL, and a majority will not get contracts as there are limits on roster size. It seems to be something like 100 prospects competing for 20 open NHL contracts or extreme odds to make it. It is a hard but good life being a pro hockey player.
