  1. Im from jersey, specifically what I believe is the central part, and here it is very divided. There are either knicks or 6ers fans, and either jets/giants or eagles fans, just based on who you ask

  2. Central Jersey exists and we hate both Philly and NYC but we root by and large for New york teams

  3. 1:11 they do. They are called the Devils. Yeah there’s some Flyers in very Southwest Jersey, but it seem like the Devils reign supreme.

  4. It's was 201 and 609 a communication split by the ma bell area codes before fax machines and the Internet no one wanted to use an area code due to lo g distance calls creating the devide

  5. Having lived in Bergen County (northeast corner of NJ) my entire life (almost 47 years), I've never seen this as a problem. Excluding Monmouth and Ocean Counties, anything south of I-195 could just be a different state. As far as football fans up here, the Giants have the plurality of fans while the Jets are second. I'd say around 1 out 3 fans root for other teams (notably the Cowboys and Steelers). Baseball is majority Yankees and then Mets. There are far fewer fans of other teams in baseball compared to football. Also, while the Devils carry the state's name, I believe there are still a lot of Rangers fans here including me. When I was growing up in the 90's, it was about a 50/50 split. It may be more tilted in favor of the Devils now. When I finally got cable in 1989, MSG Network was part of basic cable. The Devils and Islanders were on SportsChannel which was an extra. It was an easy choice.

  6. In 1950,a Newark group attempted to buy the St.Louis Browns and have them play in Ruppert Stadium. At the time, territorial rights were no big thing.Had that happened, the team wouldn't have moved to Baltimore and may have kept the Mets from ever existing.

  7. Downstate Illinois is in a somewhat similar situation, but it sort of weakened due to the Rams moving to L.A. still you'll see a mix of Cubs/Cardinals stuff here (White Sox arent as popular or Blues/Blackhawks stuff.

  8. on the east central jersey starts at the amboys and ends at lakewood. the westside starts around flemington and ends at bordentown

  9. as a diehard devils fan who grew up deep in Flyers territory: I could turn on broadcast TV and see Flyers games. I had to have a special cable package to see Devils games which we couldn't afford. The only way for me to ever see the Devils on TV was if they were playing the Flyers or if they were on ESPN. Stuck it out though because LETS GO DE-VILS

  10. I lived in the A.C. area from late 70s until 2008. To be honest no one i was around even mentioned a central Jersey until the late 90s when I met people from the general area (because none could agree on "borders") at college. The only part of NJ that I personally recognize as central Jersey is the median of I-195.
The sports landscape on the southern half is even worse when you realize they can't support even lower level minor league teams like the ECHL A.C. Boardwalk Bullies and the Atlantic League Camden Riversharks.

  11. Yo New Jersey sports fan here. My teams are the Jets Mets Knicks and the Devils. But all New Jersey fans are united by the DEVILS! FUCK YEAH THE DEVILS! DON'T BELIEVE THIS PROPAGANDA

  12. Don’t overlook the Mets are much more popular in North and Central New Jersey than a lot of people will give them credit for. New Jersey back in the 80s when I Met were winning in the Yankees were mediocre Mets all around New Jersey.

  13. As someone from NJ F the Red Bulls, Jets and Giants for playing in NJ and not putting NJ on their teams. Also big FU to the Nets going to Brooklyn. 76ers are trash and training in Camden. Go Boston f NYC and Philly FR.

  14. North Jersey is a NYC suburb. South Jersey is a Philly suburb. Central Jersey just is.

  15. Since the Devils play in Newark they're more a part of the NYC sports scene and I'd imagine they don't have too many fans in South Jersey. Plus the Rangers would have just as many (or even more) fans in the Devils' home area as the Devils have, just like they have more fans on Long Island than the Islanders. The Devils vs. Rangers rivalry is much hotter than the Devils vs. Flyers because the Devils and Rangers are seen as coming from pretty much the same place, like the Mets and Yankees, while the Flyers are from a completely different world.

  16. Can you do a video on why the Detroit Pistons moved out of The Palace of Auburn Hills for Little Caesars Arena?

  17. Born and raised in Middlesex County here – Central Jersey's southern border is 195, and it's Northern border is a bit fuzzier, formed by 78 and 287 and 440. But basically if you drive west from the outerbridge crossing, Central Jersey is on your left. Go Devils, pork roll, exit 9 and so on and so forth

  18. Even in the newly formed PWHL (Professional Women’s Hockey League), the New York Sirens play at Prudential Center in Newark, but still use the New York naming

  19. There was so much you could’ve told about the sports divide but I felt you kept explaining the thing over and over.

I’m from Philly but my mom’s side of the family is from Brooklyn and the Bronx, grew up going down the Jersey Shore (my dad and uncle had a few condos outside of Atlantic City), and have friends that lived in “central NJ” (whatever that is.)

My mom’s mom, my grandma from the Bronx, lived in Philly & was able to get NYC local stations (she was a huge Yankees fan.)

In Atlantic City, where it’s all Philadelphians & NYers, you could only get Philly local Philly stations, but if you went to other Jersey Shore towns that were actually only like 45 minutes from Philly, you only got NY stations.”Central Jersey” could be Princeton or Trenton. It could also be smaller towns in the dead middle of the state. In those areas, they get both local stations. If you go to a bar to watch a Giants v Eagles game, you’ll see the bar split with both jerseys. Most of those people have never lived in either city but they chose a side (team.) It’s rare but you’ll have a Yankees, Eagles, Nets fans, or some other kind of mixture. You also had former NJ governor, Chris Christie, who grew up around Trenton but chose to be a Cowboys fan?! 🤦‍♀️

Lastly, it’s said that the Italian mob made certain boundaries in NJ and that’s why you’ll see more NYC or Philly presence in random NJ towns.

  20. The split isn’t anywhere near as tense as Connecticut is with the Yankees-Red Sox, or any other NYC-Boston combination.
