i was there when the avs swept us.. it's time for another cup.
Howdy! Another great video – thank you. Just a heads up and I am sure I am not the first to say – the last 4 or 5 videos have been ~6db quieter than normal. Not sure what is going on there. Makes clicking on the next youtube video exciting though 😉
Of course the Florida Panthers are good because of the tax breaks. That explains why the Panthers have been in the Stanley Cup for the last 30 years, and the Dolphins just finished winning their 10th Super Bowl, and the Heat are mid dynasty. Don’t even get me started on the excellence of the Miami Marlins.
Florida is planning right now who they will put out on Edmonton , Bettman also getting together with the Refs to tell them what great games they Refed in the last 2 series ,and keep up the good work for Florida ,That about Sums it up .lets watch Bettmans Crooked NHL and see if iam right ,Either they injure someone on edmonton or the Refs take over the games like Toronto Carolina .
That Forsling contract is a steal. What a great waiver pickup.
Well coached and well managed and unbelievable leadership on the ice but you have to admit the league and ITS officials have allowed both Florida teams to dictate the type of hockey that wins in the playoffs , the Oilers WILL put an end to that this year !!!
I'm gonna go have a lie down🥱
I'm mad the whole "Barkov is underrated" spiel is STILL a thing in some places. 8 years of playoffs, 3 cup finals ONE OF WHICH HE WON. Yeah sure his game is not as pretty as some other superstars but at the end of the day, it only matters whether you win or lose, and Barkov is a winner.
answer: tax evasion
Why is the sound bad and volume down in this video?
For a team named after cats they’ve got a roster full of dawgs
The taxes thing reminds me of the Vegas expansion draft or Tampa Bay’s cap “circumvention”. Nobody complained about Vegas’s expansion draft and at the time people scoffed at the idea that team would do anything meaningful. In all of these cases, smart management crafted a successful situation, and then many people retconned prior events to fit their own new narratives.
Only move he made that came back to bite later was placing montembault on waivers
Carter Verhaeghe's last 5 seasons: Stanley Cup Champion, President's trophy, Stanley Cup Finalist, Stanley Cup Champion, now back in Stanley Cup Finals. What a run
They had their best regular season in franchise history, a 58 win team in 2022. It takes guts to trade a 115pt player from that team in Huberdeau. Zito knew his team wasn’t good enough after they got swept in the 2nd rd by Tampa.
Ironically the Leafs also had their best regular season that year – 54 wins. The similarities end there with their refusal to take any risk and move one of the core 4.
6 foot 200lb – without exception (before Marchand)
Only addition: Kulikov was drafted by Florida and said in interviews he wanted to come back in the worst way, he never wanted to leave. That plays into that contract for sure.
Barkov IT IS worth The 10 milj..
Panthers is my favorite team those
100% agree, thank you.
well constructed team
Thank you for assembling facts and putting all of this tax advantage nonsense to rest.
Benny stays home
So I can't believe this kind of got glossed over–Florida wins the President's Cup in '22 and loses in the 2nd round. They fire the coach, trade the star player, and then make a their first of 3 Stanley Cup runs…
To quote the poorly timed Tiger Woods advertisement after one of his scandals, "Winning takes care of everything"
great Video!!
When they traded Huberdeau, I thought they were crazy…whelp, anyway
Barkov is still underrated. He should be getting Hart consideration because he's that good. He's the centerpiece of the strongest team of the last decade. The only player that's maybe better is McDavid, except having Barkov on your team directly counters the opponent having McDavid.
I hope Detroit goes after Megna
I definitely said Reinhart to florida was gonna bring them a cup. Being a sabres fan i was disgusted how the organization treated their star players at that time. Reinhart wanted term and the team rerused to offer him anything but another bridge deal. He wanted to stay here so bad and the organization basically told him they didnt think he was good enough to commit to him.
Yes i was happy we got levi at the time but it wasnt because he was proven. It was because we actually got similar value back for once. I work for the amerks ice crew and Levi is absolutely incredible in the AHL. We will see if he can transition to the NHL begause the sabres have already tried to force him before he was ready twice.
UPL has a new goalie coach this offseason he is training with so if he can fix whatever his issue is and levi can get eased in as the #2 then the sabres could have a killer duo for years to come.
I remember years ago on the Overdrive podcast noodles saying "if bob can win florida 1 cup no one will talk about it being a bad deal" and look what happened 3 straight finals 1 win and its looking like they'll probably win again this year
When Montreal was winning cups in the 70's, Sam Pollack was the GM and like Zito, he knew how to build a team, and got the right coach in Scotty Bowman as has Zito with Paul Maurice. It's the brains behind that build the team, not the money. The only difference is the Habs drafted 14 players and added others, with Florida it's the other way around, but they won one and are going for their 2nd. I still get the feeling from time to time, that there's a certain "magic" that comes along when a team is ready or poised to do it, maybe it's momentum, but it's in the room.
Cost of living isnt very relevant when we are talking about multimillionaires
A look at how the Panthers built there roster the answer raiding the buffalo sabres of all talent
Good correction on the Eetu pronunciation my friend! This is coming from a Finn!
I’ll be honest, I’m an oilers fan. I don’t think it’s a big deal with the cap here. People lump in Florida and Tampa in one for their argument. Nashville and Seattle aren’t competing for cups. Dallas is competitive but get dismantled by the oilers, Colorado, Vegas, etc. Vegas won one, but most of what they do is trades, not showing an advantage. Seems like a coping mechanism. Adjusting for a “tax advantage” hurts players if they are ever traded. Again, as a fan of a Canadian market I should be screaming it’s unfair. But I don’t think it is. Players take discounts to win, you can find players on value contracts with a good gm & staff. I don’t get the arguments against here

There’s no shot you just contrasted cost of living with tax… tax can be millions for these players… I don’t think Tkachuks wallet cares much that dinner is 6$ more a meal looooool
barkov is the best player in the league
I think Balinskis would be a great name for a boy cat
Hey big dog, remember me? I called your playoff predictions wrong when you took Tampa…
Thanks for the deep review of the roster.
Four homegrown talent from the draft?
