The avs mortgaged their future for some pretty bad trades imo… Traded a first rounder for Sean Walker….. Traded a first rounder and the best player in their farm system for Brock nelson…..

One way to solve the cap issue forcthe Avs is to trade out Sam Girard. He is a fairly good player for a team looking for his style of player. Unfortunately, he has become expendable with Makar on board, as a small but offensive and dynamic player on defense. Om top of that, Sam Malinski is surging as a very good replacement but on the right side. He is not that big neither but much heavier than Sammy Gee and much cheaper too. That trade would free up to 5 millions. All of sudden, the Avs eould have 6.2 millions free for getting 2 more players to help out of that crunch time.
LTIR is fine as long as the player is actually injured. If Edmonton lied and Kane could've played, throw the book at both of them

The trades were all pretty good. Sure the Avs are up against it in terms of cap, but McFarland should have been up for GM of the year. Jim Nill is far far worse off in terms of cap and made it one round further and he only made the flashy trade.
Whats crazy to me is going into the playoffs I would've said that out of the west, The Avs were going to be the worst off after the post season. When Brock was signed it was like everything was fixed and now Edmonton and Dallas are in nightmare scenarios. Overall, the Avs management really understands the now and the next 3 years. Which allows me to chill and just get excited!
The Coyle trade never made sense to me. It was a horrendous trade

If there really is serious talk about signing Jonathan Toews, I wonder if they move Charlie Coyle. That would free up 5.25 M of cap space and would allow them to sign another third winger and the third pairing D-Man they want.
On the out in the first… 10 min left to go in the 3rd in game 7 we were up 2. Like 90% chance of winning. I even said it out loud to my family. And then what happened happened.. I doubt there were many bets placed at that exact time against the avs. It was a shock. If we win that game we likely fight it out with the oilers and coin flip for the cup final and then who knows. But we were so damn close to closing out game 7 with a shutout. A few huge d mistakes were made. We had a new team trying to find chemistry late in that series. Now going into next season with the same centers and goalies? Wow. We’re set to be a contender for the next handful of years if things go in a rational manner. Of course things might go bad, but it’s way more likely we are in the decision finals 3 of the next 5 seasons and win once more cup. 2 if things are near perfect. And of course we could go without any of these predictions if things don’t go well. It’s life. McF has set the team up to succeed. And with a little luck our pp will improve with a new st coach.
