  1. What team moves on from a guy that gets 100 points, quarterbacks the power play, kills penalties. This just seems like the wrong discussion. Mitch is elite.

  2. Tavares had a good playoff. IMO, he should remain a Leaf. Marner, Matthews, Reilly, and Nylander had an ugly playoff, especially the Panther series.

  3. I think it's shitty that Marner goes and Willy Mathews and Riley and JT stay, Willy is never going to fit in Berube's team defence strategy and Mathews has back issues he will have for the rest of his career. Reilly was noticeably horrible when needed more than Mitch and JT as good a year he had was looking tired and slow in the playoffs. To be honest I think Mitch is just the easiest to right off and they team problems are bigger then 1 guy.

  4. Dubis screwed the leafs the minute he hired Travares to that contract. He should have know the upcomers would want to be paid equal and beeter which quickly lead to half the cap doing to four players. If they had Travares 11 million and realistic contracts not the 11, 11 and 8 he handed out Mathews, Marner and Nylander they would have been been in the hunt the last 7 years. Hunter should have got the job period. Good to see Dubis learned from his blunder by immediately bringing the most overpaid defensemen (long term contract) he could find in Karlsson.

  5. The biggest problem is Matthew’s highest paid player, worst captain takes no ownership of anything. Except to fall back on persistent injury excuse…. Strong enough to play 4 nations but not enough to contribute to the team that pays him. To hear him call teammates passengers what a joke he is. Not Marners fault and definitely not Tavares no benefit to changing for the sake of change. That is frustration talking from a group of fans who will criticize and complain no matter who they bring in or let go

  6. I think Minten would have had a bigger impact than Laughton, and they already had him.

  7. Over the decades The Leafs have been my "second" team, but I never paid an enormous amount of attention to the drama behind the scenes. Having said that, this is like watching a slow-motion train wreck.
Games 5, 6 and 7 were each unbelievable. They fold in game 5 at home. Hold off elimination on the road in game 6 and then SHIZAAM!
I can't wait to see what changes will come to Toronto.

  8. I would trade both Nylander and Matthews for young prospects and high draft picks, Matthews isn’t a winner and not a guy who can will his team to win. Unfortunately you have to rebuild this team from the ground up and draft players who are not just skilled but also tough.

  9. if they are going to let Marner walk, then they need to trade Matthews. Both are equally responsible for the lack of playoff success. Don't tell me, but Matthew's scores goals. You're right, but only during the regular season. Where is he in the playoffs? He has no heart to win when it matters most. Personally, I'd trade Matthew's and sign Marner, and Traverse.

  10. Players are way too sheltered. They feel that they can show up at home and play like that. The team embarrassed Berube. Not prepared to go to war.

  11. This is the right stance. You just move on from 91/16. I would go even further and let teams know we are open for business. If a trade comes for any player on the roster than isn't Knies? I am entertaining it. removing 1/4th of a tumor and thinking you are cancer free is pretty much running it back again.

  12. Marner wouldn’t come back even if asked, and the reality is they will miss him. I think Mr. Button is wrong – I don’t agree with letting Tavares go – he is a very solid contributor and works his ass off. He has been amazing to welcome, house, and help orient the younger players. He’s also one of the best in the league in face-offs. If he’s willing to take a home-town discount, why the hell would you let him go?

  13. The Leafs are insane…the false belief year after year that they can score their way to the stanley cup. And handcuffing the team by tying up 5-6 players w 60 percent of the salary cap. This franchise is a joke.

  14. There are several problems with the leafs amd one is not Mitch Marner .
Playoff hockey requires more than one senior physical player , Pacioretti , left out of first few games , did hos job.
What coach would not play an experienced hard hitting former Captian?
They wont ever win with Mathews , he is not a Captain , and he is too soft when tge going gets tough,
He was the passenger he spoke of .

  15. There is no leadership on the Toronto maple leaf, Matthew is a good player, not a great player, not a lead by example, not a McDavid , MaKinnon,Crosby , Marchand 😅, both Thachuck, or any of the Florida players, Toronto is a good pond hockey team, not a get in the trenches team , take a look at Florida after the whistle, Carolina is getting beat up , they don’t want any part of it, and they are a tough team, 2 years ago when Toronto was playing Boston, I remember a big scum in the corner, everyone grab someone, and what was Matthew doing, going around and picking his teammates hockey sticks, goes by Marchand, and Marchand punch him in the head , woosh, you have to be tough, I thought if he was hurt they should have brought Nick Roberson up , small but lots of heart , played one game , fewest minutes in the game, and scores there only goal , would have done alot better than Matthews on the power play, how many times did you hear Matthew say, we going to reset, lacks toughness and heart, soft player

  16. The whole team is to blame not just Marner and Matthews. They all have to pitch in and play. You need a whole team not 2 players or 4. This team has a whole lot of talent. They need the discipline and and confidence to want it bad to win.

  17. This year cost the Leafs Liljegren, Timmins, Minten, and Grebenkin plus 2 1st rounders. And Marner and Tavares! How are we getting better like this???

  18. This is what you get when Sportsnet and TSN own the Leafs. This is worse than when Ballard owned the team. Now the media does the dirty work for management. This will likely go as well as the LeBron era went going for 35 mil playoff viewers to 5 mil.

  19. They should be moving on from Matthews. The guy scores goals in the regular season and then completely turtles in the playoffs. He's not a leader at all. It hasn't worked with him here. 9 years is enough.
