I'll help the panthers out by taking Luosterinen off their hands.
We acquired his rights a few years ago and he didn't want to sign here, not sure if that would have changed.

Rodrigues plays second line wing on the panthers and gets 30-40 points. It seems like the Panthers have a bunch of guys who score 30-50 points and make 3 million or much less. Not exactly a Marner replacement from a points perspective but maybe we need a bunch of better than average guys and less superstars. It might work.

Save what you have left in cap space. Lose both of them next year. Remaining cap space minus those 2 plus the cap going up means you take a massive swing on Mcdavid.

Rodrigues…. there is a reason Florida didn't sign him…. and he was only 1 million last season. He looked alright in the Leaf series… but did not stand out by any means. Plus, he got knocked down and was out for a couple games. We already have enough of that type of fortitude on this team. No knocks against Evan… but the Leafs can do better with the money left over from Marner. There is no rush at this point.
Man I really wish we didn’t get rid of marner this lineup looks significantly worse. In order for leafs to be good they need there captain to score 50+ goals . They need knies to score 30+ 60-70 points , they need mcmann to take a step forward and hit 25 goals ish , Willy needs to score 40-50. JT needs to remain consistent, domi needs to have a better year , hopefully he can get 15-20 goals .
A lot of things need to happen for the leafs to even make playoffs let alone be a contender . I still don’t but we going to get a top 6 via trade . How are they going to do that when they have no prospects or draft picks ? Unless they get rid of one of there big guys , I don’t see them getting a top 6.

Sounds like the Leafs are stockpiling assets so they have trade capital to swing for the home run and make a mid-season trade for a legit star when one of the other teams fades by the trade deadline. Not saying Rodriguez is bad or not a value purchase. But the Leafs just lost Marner. If you don't fill that hole gas is going to escape the balloon that was super-success in the regular season.

Management has gutted and destroyed any growth within this organization for the next 4-5 years. Love or hate Marner, his departure has left a massive hole that has not even come close to being filled. This team looks weak on paper. Wow…1st round picks lost and prospects shipped out for no real needle movers. Great job management.
