I think the trade was pretty even for both sides tbh
I’m a canes fan, and I don’t want to sound like a homer… but the way I see it is as such.
1. Morrow has potential, no doubt – however he was utterly lost on the ice when the canes needed him in the playoffs. And that’s where the canes need to win, the playoffs. They could keep Scotty and let him develop, but the time is nigh…
2. Miller elevates the ceiling of the D corps, which already has a history of getting the most out of Defensemen… expect to see a similar trend.
3. Canes surrender picks which will likely be towards end of rounds 1 & 2, and get an immediate upgrade in a 1:1 player swap of Scott for K’Andre. Oh, and the canes can afford it now, and the cap is gonna go bazooka…
4. Any of us would look decent playing on a team with Slavin, if it goes to hell, K’andre cannot possibly be a larger liability than 41 year old Brent Burns…
I won’t worry about this signing until we see at least 2 years of Miller in the system. Let’s go Canes.
The Rangers get the better of the draft picks between Dallas and the Hurricanes
Rangers wanted to get shed of Miller, but be honest, the whole Rangers show was mess. You can’t put all that on Miller. We’ll pull for him, and hopefully it will work out great. Canes still need a couple of pieces, so we’ll see.
Slavin/Chatfield/Nikishin/Miller is a menacing top 4. Size, speed, hitting, defense, passing, shooting, this is a group that has no weaknesses. Gostisbehere and Walker might be the best third pair in the league too. I hope we can get a good forward. If they can sign Ehlers and then trade for a 2C (or move Jarvis to 2C) we're looking at a very good team with a much better chance against Florida than last time.
K’Andre has the size & tools. But he wore out his welcome in NY b/c of his penchant for turnovers in critical moments. If a change in scenery & coaching fixes his head, then of course the Canes makes out great. But signing up for an 8 year pact rather than a bridge deal on a question mark…that’s risky.
Good luck! K’Andre has all of the talent to be great but his head is totally gone. All NYR were bad last year but Miller was the worst of all. 2 years ago he started to lose his mind and easy turns became hard. Last year he just got worse and worse as the season went. He needs to find his confidence or Carolina is in a big world of problems.
Miller replacing Orlov for a cheaper price is an upgrade by itself then you add the fact that he's younger, bigger and faster I see it as a good deal. Morrow wasn't close to NHL level and the picks Carolina traded are late round picks they normally trade anyway. He was bad in NY because the Rangers don't really have a defensive structure they just chase guys with the puck and lose coverage.. Canes have a better Defensive game overall so Miller should make a positive impact for the team
