1. I understand your trepidation with trading Dougie but I do feel Nemec/Casey can fill enough of the hole that Dougie leaves plus adding whatever top 6 winger and extra cap space that the team would be better.
Obviously I don't know what teams Dougie can be traded to but if Fitz could center a deal around Dougie for something like Vilardi (Jets), Kyrou/Buchnevich (Blues), Robertson (Dallas). I believe that'd make the Devils a better team even if we have some slight growing pains and need to alternate between Nemec and Casey (worst case Fitz needs to find an offensive Dumoulin at the deadline this year).

  2. I like dougie and agree we would miss him but with having to stay cap compliant, it probably just comes down to priorities. We only have $6M cap right now, which is not enough for a long term L Hughes deal. If re-signing L Hughes really is fitz's "#1 priority" as he said, he might just be doing whatever he has to do to make it happen. Plus it wouldn't hurt to have some extra cap available after resigning Luke to address the 3C or top 6 winger issue. We could potentially kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

  3. Think bigger picture my man. Listen dougie has played decent for the Devils but when he’s went down, Luke fully took over and PP1 had a better percentage. He also did nothing in the playoffs on the power play. The man simply didn’t shoot enough.

I’m a Dougie guy actually. But moving his contract is easier than Palat and yes we need to put some faith in Nemec and Luke. Let them take over cause Dougie was one of the worst turnover machines in his own zone out of the whole league. Can’t get much worse. Moving him allows us to get a top 6 winger somehow someway.

Of course I’d rather him than Palat but unfortunately Palat is here to stay. Hope I’m wrong but I don’t even think teams that want to get to the floor want him.

  4. I really agree with the hoping and wishing, like it feels like we have a lot of hoping and wishing to do on a lot this season.. I feel like it would be better to just play it safe with our blueline this season… don’t mess with perfection and miss the playoffs.

Also, hot take: I kind of feel like Fitz is gonna deal Allen at the deadline for a nice package (maybe not this season but next)

  5. I don't think they'll trade Hamilton. I wouldn't be surprised if they DON'T trade Mercer. They'll probably trade Palat.

I predict that the Devils will trade for Brenden Gallagher (I also ptedicted that in one of your other videos). He'll be the top 6 forward.

And if the Devils do get another defenseman to replace Hamilton, I think it'll be Quinn Hughes.

  6. He is the number one offensive threat of all the defensemen on this team. Especially on the power-play. Getting rid of him is a mistake. End of story.

  7. Mixed feelings about this. Maybe it's because Fla has set such a standard and we watched them win without any D men who resemble Dougie's skill set or play his particular role, at least not the way he plays it. Maybe Montour was in that mold, but I don't think of them as entirely similar players.

I said earlier we can't win with Dougie and maybe I would walk that back a little, but like you said: he's not physical for his size and he's not great defensively, which is to say: playoff hockey. Does the veteran presence and/or offensive IQ make up for it? I'm not sure.

Also, this is pretty obvious but the $9m is too much. I really wish it was like $7m. Unless we trade Palat we might HAVE to move Dougie. I guess it depends on Luke's deal. Teams I've heard are interested: Seattle, Toronto, Tampa, Detroit, Montreal, San Jose.

  8. I appreciate everything dougie has done for this team he’s a true devil he was the first big piece, but I think it’s more important to get a forward or center

  9. Im pretty much with you. You only trade this dude if it makes the team better.

Who knows this might be the season the dougie bomb returns

  10. Trading Dougie makes sense . Trading an expensive player that skills might be deteriorating is better a year earlier than a year late . Just like the time Nashville traded away Subban to us .
I think you are seriously mistaken thinking that an aging Dougie will be a long term solution, unless ur content for just making the playoffs

  11. Dougie is still welcome here in Carolina! and would definitely be an improvement over Orlov, but damned if we're giving up a top 6 Offensive player.

  12. That’s crazy if we trading Hamilton instead of palat we don’t need palat when need Hamilton for pp1 bc Luke barely slap shot the puck

  13. I think Dougie was a key guy to the team, but since injuries has never been the same. Someone would have to fill his roles. I like our D depth, but need Kova and Dillon back in the lineup. Nice to someone who can bomb some shots in from the blue line

  14. I agree, Ace. I would prefer to keep Dougie one more year… Bc of what he brings on the pp, and to give Luke another full szn to step into the role.

Unfortunately, I do think the cap being what it is will prematurely force the move this summer. Fwiw, I think Dougie's value is higher right now than it would be hypothetically next year, though. It's the last year to make moves with a third team retaining salary easily (if that's what it would take to get a trade done). Also, if he has another injury, or even continues to show some issues with his shot post-pectoral tearing, that would decrease his value.

It'll be sad whenever his time inevitably comes to an end, but I hope it can lead to some immediate forward help (and later on a Quinn signing in 2027.)

  15. bowen byran can be available. If somehow he agrees for 6.5-7M it would make some sense to get him in some sort of a 3-way deal as Buffalo doesnt need Dougie. They already have two super expensive D men. But this way Nemec should go

  16. With Kovacevic out, im not too sure about trading Dougie until the TDL. And if they move him before then, they need a vet to come in to take pressure off Casey and Nemo

  17. we better not trade dougie he litterally chose us in FA when nobody ever picks the devils and he’s an good player offensively im sure this year he’s going be good if healthy

  18. I seem to always agree with even back to #TimoTime!!! Love Timo.
I think as an honest fan, Luke QB’ing the power play was not doing it for me, I think they are planning on Luke replacing dougie as the way they’ve been playing Luke
I love dougie and do not wanna see him go. Good locker room guy too.

  19. kovacevic wont be there to start the season and fitzy didnt sound overly enthusiastic about him being back quickly once the season starts. 3 months or more of pesce nemec and casey as the right shot dmen is not an nhl caliber defensive lineup. not yet anyways. dougie absolutely can not be traded unless quinn is moving to NJ. i dont care what dougies underlying numbers and analytics are he still provides a lot of things that the devils will miss when hes gone, and if he didnt provide those things, teams would NOT be interested in trading for him…

  20. Calling Hamilton a " beast" is laughable. He is soft for a man 6'5 , never uses his size. He is a valuable part as a PP but that doesn't warrant the contract he got. If you were honest, Hamilton did not turn out to be the defensive anchor they thought he was going to be. Not a player you build a championship team around.

  21. Hey big devils fan here especially my 8 year old brother. He wants me to say keep dougie. Personally hes not a huge asset to the team in my opinion

  22. I do hope Dougie gets traded . He’s been a loyal warrior but his biggest ( and possibly only ) asset , a shot from blue line , has been deteriorating fast and injuries have become a real problem . If I had to choose whom to get rid of , Palat or Hamilton , I would trade away Hamilton . More salary saved and Palat can play bottom six ( very expensive of course )

  23. We have enough defensemen, the problem we have is scoring, we need a top 6 forward and if it means getting of rid of Hamilton so be it. Unfortunately, Hamilton is always hurt and Casey and Nemec deserve a chance to be in the lineup regularly soon.

  24. Pleeeeasaasseee get us McTavish. Trading Dougie for the right player is the kind of edgy move that Fitzgerald needs to make. He's gun shy sometimes with trades. Obviously you want it to be for the right trade but look what Florida did for tkachuk. I'm not on the trade Dougie ASAP train but I am on the make this team better. Any means necessary train

  25. I think Dougie has been hampered by his shoulder injury. His shot wasn't where it used to be last season .. so it's def worthwhile to see what's out there. But with our lack of scoring, we gotta trade point in with points out

  26. Rumours of Hamilton connected with the Leafs… looking like the mock trade being talked about is Hamilton for a package of Ekman-Larson, Mcmann/Domi and other small pieces

  27. Ace to say ur scared to have a lot of rookies on blue line isn’t correct. Dillon, siegs, pesce, kovy, Luke nemec these are all bets except for nemec. I love Dougie I’m only on board to trade him if we get a legitimate top6 winger with that money. In a perfect world we trade palat but no one wants him.

  28. The only reason to trade Dougie is if the Devils are getting Quinn if not Dougie needs to stay. A random comment the other day said Hamilton to Vegas for Hertl which for the Devils would be amazing but again the Quinn deal needs to be ready to go and they also need someone ready to take Palats contract.
