It means the Canucks didn’t lose him on waivers for nothing.
Surely this fairly mundane minor trade involving their 3rd string goaltender will not divide fans.
Imagine if he went to waivers and oilers picked him up. Fans would run JR out of town. Best to get something for him.

Somewhat surreal that a goalie who played a pivotal role in helping his country(Latvia) win their first ever medal(bronze) at the IIHF hockey championship, played the majority of games for the Canucks in their post season that nearly saw the franchise make the Conference Finals after falling 3-2 in game 7, and put the cherry atop the cake this past season as the starting netminder that saw the baby Canucks win their first ever Calder Cup in the AHL Championship, suddenly find himself odd man out and dealt to a franchise in rebuilding mode.
Unreliable as a backup, inconsistent in regular season games, but a young lad whose tunnelvision and focus amplified exponentially when the games were of significant consequence.
A hero for the franchise twice over, but sold for a 4th round draft pick and an unknown commodity 4th line center seems an odd and sadly inappropriate exit for a player who was a primary variable in providing such excitement and joy in this little Metropolis by the Sea.

Chase Stillman, is he really a prospect. Same age as Aatu Raty. Stillman stats are bottom 6 in AHL – 119 games, 36 points and -21. Raty AHL – 169 games, 119 points and +14. Raty has played 48 games NHL between Islanders and Canucks. Stillman, was drafted by a non playoff team and did not play on a single game. Won’t hold breath on a 4th round draft pick. In the end we get a bottom 6 AHL forward and a ?
