I would have like to have it broken up when the Panthers ate our lunch. I think we could have gotten more for the veterans. However, you are asking the big question…will the younger players rise up and grow together as a club. The secret is to play for each other. Talent , effort, leadership and an innovative system are important but you got to do it for each other. 🏒🍸
The players did not quit last year, what happened was a combination of the GM & coach fracturing team cohesion, combined with a very poor coaching system. All the trades, even bringing in JT, did not change the team or the outcome. The Panthers don't win just because of their players, they win because they play for a gifted coach who implements a winning offensive & defensive system. They had turnover last year but didn't miss a beat. The key to our future & next season will be Sullivan. If he is as good a coach as reputed, there is enough talent there to have a really good TEAM. Emotional connection is crucial to a team & emotion drives behavior as every good psychologist knows. If Igor was in the Oilers net, they would have beat the Panthers. Criticizing Igor is a fool's errand. He is worth every penny & with a viable D system(not that horrible man to man which had D going out to the blueline chasing their guy) he will prove his worth. Context matters.
What are your thoughts on Laf for Byram trade? Our D would be solid and Buffalo would finally have a decent player locked up. Byram’s contract would be the same or less than Laf’s. They are equally talented
Still think we need to move some of our better forwards and senior players. Need to get younger, hungrier, more physical. Trade deadline? Move panarin, maybe zban if he waives? Open cap space for the next off season. Maybe we can sign younger grittier scorers. Not sure who that is… have to see who goes to free agency. I think this year might be a bit better, maybe playoffs, but this current roster is not a cup winner. So much work to be done.
The GM has made some very good moves this off season – after some extremely bad moves (or not making needed moves) last off season.
Coach Pete got the team to the Conference finals, but last year clearly had no answers.
Changing the coaching staff was essential; let's give the new ones a chance,
