  1. If you're a Penguins fan you better hope they win the cup this year or next year. Because their farm system is potentially set up for some bleak years to come

  2. They are not top heavy, they have the best bottom 6 group of Malkin and Crosby's career.  A third line of Kunitz, Bonino and Fehr will do serious damage and a 4th line of Dupuis, Matt Cullen and Beau Bennet or Oskar Sundquist is among the best in the NHL on paper.  The defense, when healthy, is young, fast and dynamic with every member of the top 5 being able to join the rush or carry the puck into the offensive zone.  An injury to 1 of those top 5 and they may be in some trouble and losing their entire top 4 like last year would be a disaster but maybe thats why they are going to keep Gonchar in their back pockets.  Saying they are top heavy is outdated and a shortcut to thinking.

  3. Idk why everyone still thinks Gonchar is good you should've seen him with Dallas his age is catching up to him he was terrible with Montreal and Dallas.

  4. Pittsburgh could be the highest scoring team this year. Kessel could be a 40 or 50 goal scorer next to a Crosby or Malkin. We all know about the James Neal effect, when you put a good sniper next to an elite playmaker, that sniper becomes a stud. Well what happens when you put an already elite sniper next to an elite playmaker? I think Washington knows how that works. Their defense isn't the best now, but I think Maatta can handle the ice time and Pouliot is on the verge of a breakout season any moment now. But jeez, I'm glad my Stars don't have to face the Pens very often.

  5. The Pens just signed Gonchar to a tryout deal, but I don't think he will make the team. He was a bust down here in Dallas, he didn't do much for us at all. He did do well on the powerplay assist-wise, but his prime days are long gone.

  6. They will be good in the regular season (maybe win the president) but I don't think they will do much in the playoffs imo

  7. zero farm depth this franchise is doomed in the next 3 years.

worst jerseys every too, at least wear the Pitts yellow not that crappy gold.

  8. Best forwards in the NHL right now. They are going to be cup contenders for sure and now they have Määttä back!

  9. I can see it now….. Dallas wins 8-1 over Pittsburgh. NHL.com blows up asking: IS PHIL KESSEL IN THE RIGHT PLACE!!! IS CROSBY OK???? When really its just the Dallas Stars Playing great hockey and shocking everyone…. Haha see you in October Pittsburgh. ~~~~A Dallas Fan

  10. Lethal Offense
    Great Goaltending
Very Young and Talented Defense(all the people who say its bad….have you seen the roster?)
Something great will happen this year

  11. Kunitz-Crosby-Hornqvist
    Plotnikov-Malkin-Kessel
    Dupuis-Bonino-Perron
    Cullen-Fehr-Wilson/Farnham

    Maatta-Letang
    Cole-Pouliot
    Gonchar-Doumolin

    Fleury

This is what i think the starting lineup should be

  12. How did the Penguins get more top-heavy with acquiring Kessel? It pushed players like Dupuis and Kunitz down the lineup which bolstered their depth.. plus they went and got an instant upgrade to Sutter in Bonino and signed Fehr, Plotnikov and Cullen. This is the least "top heavy" Penguins team since 2008.

  13. As much as I am a die hard leaf. It would really make me happy to see Phil Kessel raise the cup..

  14. So let me get this straight. Yes they have 3 premier players that can score 30 with ease. But 3 ppl cant win a championship. The defense will be Letang Maata & unproven talent. The depth is not what it was like on previous pens teams. Im not saying they cant win the cup, im not gunna hand it to them in the offseason bcuz there has been plenty of teams with Grade A talent that has failed. A good example is my Rangers back in 2013. Our top line was consisted of Marian Gaborik (Coming off a 41 goal season) Brad Richards & the newly acquired Rick Nash. What im saying is yes the Penguins got better offensively but look beyond the 3 forwards & see if thats championship calliber. Feel free to reply bcuz this offseason is killing me & i need to talk hockey lol

  15. Am I the only one that thinks it was a stupid idea to get and keep Kessel? They have enough offense in the top 6 but what they need is defensive and offensive depth. I also don't know why they chose to Kessel of all people to help the Penguins in the playoffs when he's barely had any playoff experience.

  16. Few question marks on defense, but their forward corps is lethal. Trying to figure out whether you want Fehr or Bonino as your fourth-line center is not a bad problem to have. And that powerplay? Phew.

  17. Well they will be better than this year and if they can be healthy they can really go to the finals but only Fleury have to be just like this year in the playoffs.

  18. Rumor has it the Penguins are looking into defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk from St. Louis. Nick Bonino would be the main piece given away for the pens.
