  1. Barzal & Sorokin are both stars, mayhe not quite superstars, but both are players Isles aren't interested in trading, and all 31 teams in the NHL would want and trade for. So, that should show you there value. For me Barzl ias good or not far off of guys like Marnr/Nylandr/Aho/Rantane/T.Thompsn/Eichl/Boldy/Forsbrg/Hischie/Brat/Konecn/Keller/Robertsn/Larkn/Raymnd/Reinhrt/Caufld/Thomas/Point/E.Pettersn/Connr/Scheifel. Sorokn is a Top 10 goslie for sure, likely better, maybe Top 5

  2. The Islanders need 5 million dollars under the Cap just to start the season . Injury Bug . They should move Pageau and DuClair , sign Schaefer and put Sorokin on LTIR.

  3. I thought that jersey was one you didn't like. So does that mean you don't like us this season. Not one of my favorite looks.

  4. I was really hoping against hope that you would somehow skip the Islanders…oh well. Each professional sport in the US has a minimum age to sign a professional contract: NFL(21) NBA(19) NHL and MLS(18) MLB(16) …so Schaefer will ink his contract Sept 5th. Most Islanders fans are hoping for another top 10 pick in the 26 draft so with any luck the Isles will be out of contention for the playoffs come January and then when March comes along Darche can move Pageau, Lee, and Cizikas…as for Duclair…he still has a Lou Lamoriello golden ticket for one more season and then they can ship him out for a bag of pucks…because that's all the value he brings.

  5. Great recap, Duclair had a terrible groin injury that never healed and he came back too soon. That was the biggest issue and I'm sure he was frustrated about his lack of speed which is his game and Roy lit him up in public for his play. Big mistake but he supposedly called and apologized recently. If he is healthy, could be an x-factor. Problem is their fwd depth is great but there are question marks everywhere (health, age, Shabanov adjusting well, Heineman improving, Tsyplakov getting his confidence back etc.) and most things need to fall into place for them to contend.

  6. Who is McWard? What am I missing?

TD is a tire fire waiting to happen. Calling him a defenseman is laughable. Just waiting for him to totally disrupt the locker, with Schaefer no less. SMFH.

You seem to be as confused as we are as fans. But as you say, we are right in the thick of the mushy middle. Not in the mix for McKenna, not in the mix, just on the outside looking for the playoffs. Another improbable lottery win is our best chance. Well probably finish 12th no less…

  7. I heard a couple of "insiders" say there might be interest from some other teams in Engvall. I find that hard to believe considering his contract and the fact he went through waivers twice without being claimed. That roster doesn't inspire much confidence that this team will be very good this year, but the goaltending will keep them from being terrible. If Sorokin did get injured, then they'll be in the McKenna sweepstakes., They might even hold the #1 ticket.

  8. Very fair assessment and recap. Lots of question marks for just how good or bad they might be which i think can actually make being in the mucky middle still fine as a fan. If they ran it back with older guys and stayed in the middle, well then thats bsd and not fun to watch. BUT if theyre young new guys can fill in and keep them competitive on most nice, staying in the middle might actually be a good sign of potential with the younger guys

  9. They do not have any depth. Lee will be dealt, Pageau will be dealt. Duclair can’t stay healthy. Barzal and Horvat do not put up the points they need to. Their blue line outside of Romanov, sucks and are injury prone. Tank for McKenna.

    /thread

  10. they need to play Sorokyn less. low 50s in games. they will miss Dobson offensively but not in his own end. i do not care what some Analytic says.

  11. The make or break for the islanders is the injuries to the blue line. It’s what wrecked them last season. If Pelech and Pulock got injured at the same time, 4 of the islanders d-men would be under 25 and 2 would be under 21; it’s just very difficult to win with a defense that young even if Romanov, Boqvist, and George are NHL ready.

I’m less worried about the forward depth because I think the team would like to give some of the Bridgeport guys a shot (primarily Maggio and Jeffries).

I think Sorokin can steal this team enough games to sneak into a playoff spot but I don’t know if that’s best for the team.

  12. Isles at the bottom of the league in scoring for the past few years. I dont see that changing this year. Goals are hard to come by with this iteration of the team.

  13. 2 second lines, 2 3rd lines. I'm not super excited about it but as long as barzy doesn't get injured I think its the best forward core we've had since 2021. Ik you wouldn't call Barzal a superstar, but he could be. Its crazy how much more productive the entire team is when he is on the ice, I think the Isles make the playoffs last year if he plays 82 games.

  14. Legally, Schaefer can't sign a contract until he's eighteen years old, I believe in September, i wouldn't doubt ALL the details have already been agreed.
As an isles Fan, you don't have to apologize for the low Jersey Rankings, most are pedestrian at best. I HATE any of the NY Logos , I figured they were, as the younger Gen, says, dissing their ROOTS, so a Red Sox type Curse was in the ready if it became the PRIMARY. Love your Channel and wish you GREAT success.

  15. Pierre Engvall. Never has someone accomplishes so much with so little. He's making alot of money for what exactly.

  16. Getting rid of Lou and having the first round pick for 2025 will help them, I don't know how long it will take for the team to recover but it should be MUCH faster.

  17. Schaefer is not signed yet, because he is not 18 until Sept. 5th. anyway, the future is very bright with all the top picks. Darche has done a great job for the short time he has been in NY.

  18. I just hope they don't waste Sorokin's career. He flies under the radar to more casual fans because of where he plays but man he's one of the best in the league

  19. Team lost 300+ man games to injury, and not sure why Palmeri wasn't moved at the trade deadline? Maybe it was a loyalty thing, that being said I still see them as a bubble team and backup goaltending will be an issue. Better to sell off at this year's deadline and attempt to continue to get younger.

  20. I think they're poised for steady improvement. New GM. No BS coach. New faces. Solid prospects knocking on the door for the next 3 years+. Aging players to become FA's. Cap $$ going up. Their biggest issue for the last 5 years has been PK & PP. If they can get out of the basement and become 16th (in both) or better, they'll pickup a dozen points easily. A healthy(er) Barzal & dmen and some more bottom 6 scoring should also mean more wins. I don't think this team is as far away as Shannon may think.
    We'll see.

  21. Darsh has 16 forwards so unless he’s putting 2 into the minors, he must trade or wave no less than two. Engvall is not tradable with his over paid contract with 5 years remaining. Duclair has a NTC but has no place on this team. JGP is a player teams would have interest in to get 5 million cap space and allow Ritchie to play 3rd or 4 th line center. Rather see Darche hold JGP and trade him at the trade deadline then insert Ritchie. The defense needs Schaefer if they want to try and generate any offense from the D position since Dobson is gone. Pelech should be traded if at all possible. Lee will likely be traded at the trade deadline or sooner. Lines could look like? Drouin, Horvat, Holmstrom… Lee , Barzal, Palms, …Shananov , JGP, Tsyplakov….. Heineman , Cizikas, Gatcomb….. Spares Duclair, Kyle Mac…. From the D side Romanov n D’Angelo…..Schaefer n Pulock, George and Mayfield…. Boqvist spare providing Pelech is traded and Schaefer makes the team, Sorokin/ Varly or the new signing from Kings if varly is a no go.

  22. Shouldn’t force it this season. I would let Schaefer bulk up a bit and get some more experience since he played so few games last year. Miss the playoffs. Draft well again. Then I think they should be a playoff team for a while when they add Schaefer, Eiserman, Ritchie, Eklund, Aitchensen and others. I’m looking forward to the season and watching hopefully a healthy top line, how Shabanov, Drouin, Heineman etc fit in and gel. Bottom 6 will be exciting and dangerous and competition with so many forwards to get on the ice will drive players to perform or give someone else a shot.
