The only way this trade can somewhat work is trading Conor Ungar for Sebastian Cossa. Even then, Cossa is closer to being NHL ready compared to Ungar since Cossa has better AHL numbers and actually got to play in the NHL so far. Yzerman wants to make the playoffs as soon as possible so him wanting to keep Cossa long term (especially after trading for him) makes this much trickier for the Oilers. Conor Ungar is the Oilers best goaltender other than maybe Samuel Jonsson which is why I propose this trade. You’ll need to throw in some NHL ready prospects to truly make that trade work. Olivier Rodrigue was not extended a qualifying offer by the Oilers so I highly doubt he will return into the organization.

If we trade for a goalie prospect I think Oilers are looking at Cossa or Ratzlaff (owned by Sabres), Stauffer said Oilers are looking at a young guy who has connections to Edmonton.
I can't think of anyone else who has NHL upside and is also from the Edmonton area.
As a Detroit fan I can honestly tell you that there is NO WAY Yzerman is trading Cossa for anything other than a fricking star player. We have two older goalies and Cossa is the next man up. The entire Wings fan base HIGHLY values its prospects and follows them religiously and is eagerly anticipating Cossa's emergence. Yzerman knows this and even preaches patience on his "Yzerplan" focused on our bountiful prospect pool. The only way Cossa will be traded is AFTER he debuts with the Wings and is somehow surpassed by our OTHER star goalies prospect Trey Austine. Good luck Oilers fans, but this speculation is a dry hole.
