Jacks gotta put on weight. I'm sure he knows this and he's trying. He really played well defensively too. I don't mind a maintenance day off here and there either. It's smart. He just needs to be there at the end.
The problem with shoulder surgeries (separations) is each time you separate it just gets easier to separate it again. To me I don't want to put added pressure on Jack by forcing him to play at center. It's a lot more work taking faceoffs and the coverages are more complex. You already have one of the best two way veteran centers in the game right now in Nico Hischier. You remember him right? The guy who easily could have won the Selke Award last year.
Nico Dawes is on a 1 way deal this year. If he goes to the minors he has to clear waivers. So they would have to carry 3 goalies or trade him
Nico would have to go through waivers in order to play in Utica. That leaves the Devils with the choice of carrying 3 goalies all year or trading Daws before the season starts, since he will almost certainly be claimed off waivers with zero compensation in return. Another in the growing list of positional mismangments by Tom Fitzgerald. So now that you are brought up to speed on the situation, Ryan, do you think they should carry 3 goalies in Newark or trade Daws, because Nico will never play another game in Utica?

82 games for Jack is not unrealistic. His injuries are not ware and tare but the results of specific plays. What chance he doesn't get injured is a good question. It's not size, Bratt is fairly injury free (and had over 90 hits last season). He's a bit light on his skates, that's the problem. I've seen injury riddled players suddenly become injury free for long stretches of careers. Sid Crosby is an example of that and still playing well into an advanced age.
