Why is it we continue to limp along with THRIFT STORE defensemen? Because we have a GM that thinks that's the only way to go.
Who really cares.
People think gms can just magically get an amazing player. Misguided at best, good players cost either money or players. And there is 31 other teams doing the same thing.
Im curious to know what other defenseman could SY have gotten? And for what price are we willing to sell out our future players for rentals?
Albert Johansson is part of the future, and people who think Detroit only has Seider and Edvinsson will soon realize that Johansson is also an excellent defenseman. All of the following players play top 4 minutes on great/good teams: Chatfield, Niko Mikkola, Brett Kulak, Lyubushkin, Whitecloud, McNabb, McCabe, Dumoulin, Middleton, Tyler Myers and Kevin Bahl. I have no doubt that Johansson can be as good as some of these guys in the future.
None of these depth d man are gonna keep ASP out of the lineup, 3-4 of these guys you can waive and not care at all
I think Gustafson could be the one traded if they make a move. That would allow Johansson to be 3rd LD. It’s more likely holl gets waived though.
Aljo is fine in his situation. If anything, Steve needs to move on from Holl somehow without even waivers. It’ll hurt GRG

The skeptic in me see’s them carrying all 8 defensemen where two of Hamonic, Gustafsson, or Holl are always in the lineup. That would leave Johansson and Bernard-Docker battling for one lineup spot.
