Small, slow and soft.
I’m gonna disagree with everything you’ve said. Fox used to be a top 20 defenseman when he had good partners to play with. Last year’s performance he wasn’t even in the top 40 in my opinion. Fox has slowed down, lacks defensive ability and can’t dig the puck out of the corners. The Panthers and Hurricanes cycled so much against the Rangers the year before last, they made ruts in the ice behind Igor’s net. No Ranger defenseman could be considered top 30. The Panthers have 5 of the top 10 defenseman in the NHL that’s why they win every year. Forsling in my book is top 5 for sure. Rewatch the entire Panthers playoffs and you’ll agree with me. I’m a Long Island native and hoped Fox would be like Brian Leech but he’s not as fast, physical or tough.
Fox is half the skater he was 3 years ago. He’s one of the worst top pair defenseman on any actual contender.
Every fan thinks their team should have someone in the top 10.
There are people who will argue that the awards for defensemen should be split into top offensive defenseman & top defensive defenseman. I tend to agree with that. Fox would be top 5 in the offensive category, but alas he is not exceptional in the defensive zone at all. There is always a context that is often overlooked. Who your D partner is factors in, but even more important is the defensive system you are playing under. I think the latter was a "confusion" that affected all the Ranger defenseman last year. There will be a new system this year with Quinn coaching it probably. The likelihood is that Fox will excel again playing with Gavrikov as well.

Wow, top 20 out of 32, such an achievement. We all know there is a precipitous drop after the top 5 in every position. Fox was good for a year or 2, including his undeserved Norris season.
