  1. Billy wasn't my fave but his hard and consistent work never got past my radar. I played like he did and Hextall I gave it and took it.

  4. Billy Smith and Grant Fuhr were the Tress MacNeille goalies of the 80s. Vernon, Roy & Hextall were all Kath Soucies.

  5. Born and raised in my hometown of Perth Ontario, Billy is a local legend. He is the reason why you can still find Islanders fans in a small Ottawa Valley town.

  6. It’s too bad Osgood wasn’t viewed in the same light, he was often overshadowed by the Detroit teams he played on even though he was incredibly consistent

  7. I hated Him. Still do. As a life long Bruins fan ya just hated him. Although He is a proven Winner , He was like The Bobby Clark of Goalies. Just a dirty player.

  8. Hack the bone and blocker to the kidney…. think you might want to step aside? Battling Billy Smith was a hell of a goalie to watch.

  9. Billy Smith wasn't a guy you wanted to fight with if you went inside his goal crease because that got him really mad back in the day but also a 4 time Stanley cup champion with the New York Islanders

  10. I remember back in78-79,bench clearing brawl against the Flyers and Billy was pounding away at,I think his name was Jim Kelly, not sure, anyway, they were by themselves near one of the benches. Kelly was supposedly one of the Flyers tough guys. Not so much in that case.
