Wild with Kaprizov are in the same boat the Habs were with Price back in the day. They definitely didn't want to sign him for a deal that matched the highest paid contract in the league, but they had to do it. If Kaprizov wants 16m then the Wild are gonna have to pay him i think.

MacDavid will sign again in Edmonton. His destiny is never winning a cup in Alberta. I love it, i dont want him anywheres else. He's been healthy for a while, injuries happen, Leon has to stay healthy as well. Who is betting on Edmonton getting to the finals again? Not this guy.
What does McNoCups expect the Oilers front office to do?? They already overpaid him once…they gave him $$$ as if he won 3 Stanley Cups, they've gone all in every year giving away multiple draft picks for the past 7 season…they have nothing as far as a pospect pool…they are the oldest team in the league. If he was serious about winning he should take a 8 year deal at 2.5mil per season and it still doesn't guarantee he wins a cup because his type doesnt win the Stanley Cup…he is not a two way centermen ala Alexander Barkov, Jonathan Towes, Anze Kopitar, he nothing more than a speedy over priced wing who skates thru the middle of the ice, but in no way shape or form PLAYS OR DOMINATES THE MIDDLE OF THE ICE.
LETHBRIDGE, AB: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling on the City of Edmonton and the Province of Alberta to stop spending taxpayers’ money to build the Edmonton Oilers another facility downtown.
“Edmonton taxpayers can’t afford to give millions to an NHL team, and neither can the taxpayers of Alberta,” said Kris Sims, CTF Alberta Director. “Taxpayers expect three basic things from city hall, to keep their streets safe, clean and in good repair.
“If mayor and council want more people to go downtown, they need to make downtown clean and safe instead of forcing taxpayers to give money to a rich hockey team that’s already had a huge arena built for them on the taxpayers’ dime.”
On Monday, the City of Edmonton approved a plan to give taxpayers’ money to the Oilers to build an outdoor event park next to their existing downtown arena.
The downtown scheme will cost Edmonton taxpayers $102 million and it will cost Alberta taxpayers another $128 million.
The money the city is handing out to the Oilers could cover the salaries of about 100 new downtown police officers and about 145 new sanitation workers for five years.
Edmonton hiked property taxes by 5.7 per cent this year while city council took home a pay raise.
The Alberta government is borrowing $5.2 billion this year and the provincial debt is more than $80 billion. Alberta taxpayers are already paying nearly $3 billion per year in debt interest charges.
“Everyday people in Edmonton are getting hit with a property tax hike this year and taxpayers should never be forced to fund a wealthy corporation,” said Sims. “If the billionaire owner of one of the wealthiest teams in the NHL wants to operate a new event park, the team should pay for it without mooching off of hardworking taxpayers.”

Oilers will not be making it to the Finals again for a bit. They blew their 2 chances and I think it's done now.
It's so obvious Johnson is being a cheerleader for the salary increases in exchange for inside information from the agents. Same with Kypreos. McDavid is free to take the big money, but if he does he needs to quit saying it's all about winning. He can chase the big money, or he can chase Cups, but he can't have both. Crosby and Michael Jordan took less so their teams could win, Crosby has 3 Cups, and Jordan has 6 rings. Florida's 3rd line made 15 M last year, and will be around 14M this year. Edmonton's 3rd line was around 5M last year, and will be similar this year. Florida has no players above 10M, Edmonton has 3 over 10M. The math doesn't work. You can't win with all those big salaries. Johnson wants to put it on Edmonton to fill out the roster, but in a cap system there is only so much management can do with all those large salaries at the top end.

Tkachuk from Florida said it best. Without the media putting the big players in news and media interviews before games hurts the players mentally. Tkachuk said in Florida the media isn’t around much and they play way better. If the Oilers want to win the 3 out of 3 chances, the team has to avoid sitting down at all during the playoffs with the media 100% and focus on practice, training and then winning the Stanley Cup.

If McDavid doesn't look like he'll sign in Edmonton, they'll need to move on from him. Two years in a row now, the Oilers haven't had the right team formula to walk away with the cup. The Oilers have a lot of money devoted to too few players. I'm not knocking McDavid, but it is a fact that McDavid was held pointless in games 6 and 7 in both SCFs in both 2024 and 2025.
