I don't agree with this at all. No team is managed without mistakes. McDavid doesn't owe the Oilers anything, but he simply did not show up in the three most important games of his life, Game 7 of 2024 and Games 5 and 6 of 2025. He played a part in those finals losses.
The narrative that he dragged the team to both finals is simply not true. The Oilers had fantastic depth scoring through most of the 2025 playoffs, and plenty of clutch performances in both runs. one or two players does not get you there, full stop, that isn't how this league works. People also don't give the Panthers their flowers either for being an excellent team, no team was going to beat them this last year in particular.
Be better, this type of negativity is not good sports journalism, there is no analysis here.
