Oilers have the Luxury of 97 and 29 on the ice for 40-45 minutes. If so the should play North of the defense blue line and hold the defender back and play the league 4 vs 4 with 97 or 29 for 40 some minutes.
It's a rare luxury. Then Oilers practice defense 4 play game to break out the puck and let the offense develop as the player learn their capabilities.
In practice have a 97 team and a 29 team as the float high slot blue line for break out , the learn the team in a easy skate working on passing. The speed will develop in game. Think and thought will reduce as the zone expands.
Come out of the gate flying, run up some extremely ugly scores like 9-2 and do NOT HAVE MERCY…. burn your way through the Regular Season…. get inside everybodies heads….. keep the same Identity that took you to 2 Finals…do NOT REGRESS…be a Firewagon Hockey juggernaught….just be Oilers….and burn through 82 games so you can plug 1 more wooden nickel into the Playoff Jukebox so we can maybe all get to hear "We are the Champions" in Edmonton once again…..
