I think the "nobody wants to play in Calgary" thing needs to settle down. Coronato, wolf long term. Both guys are American. Backund his whole career. Coleman, gaudreau and hanifin alll sprent more years than they had to in calgary. That exodus happened when we had bad management and a coach everyone but zadorov hated playing for, plus it was during a pandemic when Americans playing were kept from seeing their families. It happened, it happens to lots of teams, we need to stop pretending like it's a constant problem when it was a very specific set of situations that happened. Talking about it all the time gives off a real big "waaaah nobody likes us" vibe and it's kinda pathetic.
If the Flames trade for Zacha, they might as well trade Zary so another team can develop him properly. Zary looked like our most dynamic player before his injury last year, and looked like he was developing nicely at center. But in training camp they have him playing wing with Backlund and Coleman, which I think is a huge mistake! He needs to be playing center so the Flames can figure out what they have with him. Put him with Huberdeau and Coronato and give them some time to build chemistry, because I think that trio could actually give Calgary some real first line caliber scoring potential!
Zacha's faceoff stats are around 54% win over the last 2 years. Thats pretty good & would be a good asset for us to acquire. To me it doesnt jeopardize Zary but it could squeeze Frost out if he has a meh year.

Backlund is the team's best shutdown center. He plays against the opposing teams top lines all the time and he's also on the penalty kill.
He's also dedicated to his physical conditioning, as a mentor to young players, and his role in the community is strong.
