The Sharks 🦈 goalie can’t keep up with the puck. It’s only the fourth game and I’m already looking forward to the draft lottery.
I was at the game, but rewatching the broadcast on espn+. I’m kind of annoyed that the broadcast crew seemed unaware that we have had an ECHL team (Utah Grizzlies) for something like two decades. Before that they were an IHL team. And prior to that had the Golden Eagles who jumped between minor leagues for nearly 3 decades. We also hosted the freakin Winter Olympics, and will host another in a few years.
Yes, some of the younger fans and families are learning the sport for the first time, but SLC and Utah as a whole is extremely familiar with the game. I’m not saying we’re anywhere near the history of places like Michigan, Minnesota, or even cities/states that have nhl teams for decades, but the Mammoth aren’t the first pro hockey team in Utah. Comments made by unfamiliar espn commentators are exactly why I prefer our local broadcasters. The occasional TNT is fun, but espn should do better…
