1. I was at this game everyone was very confused about what the call was and what they were looking for. Couldn't even see the deflection on the replay.

  2. NHL put a statement out about the review. Apparently since the Canes couldn't challenge the "hand deflection" they attempted to challenge what they believed was a "puck played with a high stick" 17 seconds prior to the goal being scored. According to the statement the potential high stick occurred at 15:31 (4:29 into the period) and they ruled "that Parker Kelly's stick was not above the normal height of his shoulders when he contacted the puck." So the review actually had nothing to do with that particular deflection.

  3. The only issue i have is if a player touches a puck in with their the offensive zone and doesn't make a meaningful touch on it again, the play is dead from a hand pass, period.

I guess it depends on if its considered a deflection or not, but often in the NHL, if the puck touches the glove, play is dead.

  4. I mean, this is not a deflection to me, this is directing the puck. Should be no goal per the rule, but I can definitely see how the ref might miss it live, so it's crazy to me that this isn't reviewable by coach's challenge. It definitely should be

  5. Hurricanes were the Hartford Whalers, not the Nordiques, that was Avalanche. You really need to start proofreading and editing your videos with a little more accuracy. You lose so much credibility.

  6. My take on this is that the league considers it a deflection the same way they consider touching but not controlling the puck on a delayed penalty not enough to blow the play dead. Even though Kelly seems to be trying to catch the puck, he doesn't exert any control over the puck, therefore it's a deflection. That's my guess.
