When these players talk, I don't take them seriously anymore
It seems those fiery words from Anthony Stolarz did not motivate anywhere close to enough of his teammates to respond via a three-goal loss to the Devils after a much narrow one to the Kraken over the weekend. By contrast I am excited about the Raptors’ Wednesday EDT regular-season opener and find the Raptors a much more exciting team to watch than the Leafs. Sure the Raptors have their issues, among them a lack of players with an ability to provide adequate floor spacing, but they didn’t hold onto very many members of the core that had propelled them to a 2019 NBA championship. A non-so-good December 2 seasons ago prompted the front office to trade OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam as part of a rebuild.
Are the leafs headed towards a rebuild? It’s too early to say although it’s pretty clear the approach the coaching staff needs to use need to be more in line with that used by the RCMP to train its recruits because little else seems to have worked. If Berube, I would’ve been on those players as early as last season, using my inner military drill sergeant if necessary, including taking away ice time from a star or any other player for poor performance.

macelli has looked ok. should be used as 4th or 3rd liner but he isnt fast enough to play top 6
knies and matthews together are 2 kinda slow skaters ; move knies to the tavares line

It has been fascinating watching the Total Dismantling of a Team that started with Such Promise… Remember when you signed Tavares and were led by Shannan and Babcock then Dubas and Keefe… where did all that PROMISE GO???? Berube needs to take the lumps and keep some lines together for a few games to let them get used to playing with each other. This blender on the lines is costing points and not letting them work on things.
They need to get rid of that FAT joke Marc Savard. He has never had any success at any level as a coach.
I think they need to try a change of lines, practice with them , and then stick with them.
