This team must trade the 30 and over bums! Abd sorokin doesn't look sharp at this point. Gonna be a long season.
I'm 53 and have seen a lot of "hot" prospects come to the island in my day, especially during the 90s. I stronly agree with the comment that we need to send Schaefer back after 9. Why? 1) culture of losing will break a young spirt 2) Size: He will get hurt eventually…see Jack Hughes 3) See #2…did I say he'll get hurt already? Wait until NHL forwards start keying on him, especially on a forecheck 4) Let him grow, get stronger, dominate and also play for Canada at the world juniors 5) We can sign or trade for a top 4 dman for next season that can better guide this prodigy along…the bums we have now on D will ruin this kid. I watched Redden, Berard, McCabe, Chara, DeHann all be rushed at a young age on the Island while the team sucked (which we do) and it DOES NOT WORK OUT. .Also just look at how the Sabres are ruining some of their D studs like Owen Power. LEAVE THE KID ALONE FOR A SEASON.
This team will miss the playoffs. You read it here first.
Schaefer’s goal was gutsy, not pretty, no problem! He is playing to stay after the 9. I hope the organization doesn’t mismanage his career.
This is going to be a loooong god dam season guys😢
Shabonov's spin move was unreal. Even if we lose having him and Schaefer is pretty special to watch. Schaefer is electric, I'm so glad we picked him first, thank you Darche
the Isles have 2 first line forwards and the rest are 3rd and 4th liners.
I have no doubt we'll get there as we go. But it feels like we've lost so much "grit" over the years. Isles hockey is defined by winning puck battles, playing with grit and determination along the half boards, and outworking their opponent. Yes, we're getting faster, and that's good. But it feels like we no longer have the guys that play physical hockey, and that's a bummer.
i was at this game, the chants after Schaefer's goal was amazing. Refs also had many bad calls. penalty against a hook with Kyle Palmieri was BS, never happened
0-2 soon to be 0-5
Takeaways:
1. Team came out incredibly flat, inexcusable for the home opener.
2. 2nd game where CC and Lee did absolutely nothing. If I am Darche I am on the phone today telling teams they are on the block. The longer they play like this the less we get for them.
3. Shabs, Duclair, and The Kid were the only positives on the ice.
4. Schaffer getting the Derek Jeter chant in NY is insane and must have boosted his confidence even more . He is here for all 82, not only is it best for confidence / learning, he is the only way to fill the seats at this point.
5. Why is it so hard for grown ass men to lift the puck out of the defensive zone? This is the 3rd year now where vet defenders cant move the puck, no excuses for this. I rarely see other teams with this issue
6. Simon the red headed step child last night
7. Not Sorokin’s fault bad bounces, even worse defense & no offense
Thanksgiving?
Schaefer, RITCHIE (who must play this year), Eiserman, Eklund, Romano (FAST), Prokhorov, Nelson….are going to be *ukcing ELECTRIC!!!!
KEEP Horvatt….Im indifferent about everyone else…including Ilya.
Lee and Pageau – just don't cut it. P & P are a disappointment. I don't see the Isles getting McKenna because of what happened with Schaefer and getting last year's number 1, but we need some more juice on the front and also the back end…
I really like the speed of the Schaefer and Barzal rushes. Its gonna be dangerous when they finally click.
