  1. I think the team has the yips, major confidence issues. They need to simplify what they do. When success happens they will feel better, but now they need to simplify. Also they don't work hard enough but thats standard for the leafs, always second best effort.

  2. the worst value on the team is Macelli, mcmann is literally the best value on the team….I wish the Leafs could move Woll…everyone says don't go get Kyrou because he is marner Jr. well they literally share a birthday but also the Leafs would do great if they had a quality defensive play making forward like marner or maybe kyrou at a lot less money??

    👍👍

  3. No number one goalie, Tanev the beast is injured, need two of him, and another caber so the original can rest bit more.

So a number one goalie, two more solid dmen.

  4. I can understand the frustration Steve…. I think that dubus stripped this team and left it devastated And last season's trading deadline players were way over priced and I think all that's left to do now is retool because they can't make any trades So they're gonna have to get rid of some good assets that they have to acquire draft picks to acquire some defence at the deadline or next season…. does that make any sense or do I sound like a moron

  5. LaLonde had bad defensive teams in Detroit. He's good technically, but based on watching him as an analyst, he over complicates things. Is he over complicating it for the team?

  6. Let’s not forget the GM traded Conner and Conner to Pittsburgh for a bag of pucks in order to facilitate that disaster of a trade with Boston.
Penguin fans are just going ga-ga over Conner Dewer at the moment!

  7. Treeliving is the issue, I said when he came here that , Treeliving ruined Calgary and now Toronto. What has he done that positive. ?????

  8. Of course i'm biased as a Habs fan, and it's easy to say when Habs have gotten off to a good start. But I said this years ago.

The Leafs as an organization do not have a plan. This is the most valuable franchise in the NHL, but they are the most unimaginative.

They ran it back for years with the Shanaplan. They refused to make major moves. Then when they finally do, they don't have a plan in place, they become reactive.

They hire Treliving. Not because they wanted to go out and find the best, or some new approach, but because he was available, after basically running the Flames into the ground.

Then they want a new coach. Again, they don't try anything new, or put a plan in place. They go for who is available…another fired coach who wore out his welcome in St. Louis, and another in the image of Mike Babcock. Basically their desire for the "hard ass" coach who will make players "accountable". Very old school thinking. Like it or not, players don't respond well to that anymore. Babcock is gone. Torterella is toast. Hitchcock, Laviolette, Daryl Sutter, etc etc etc…doesn't work anymore. The Leafs missed the memo.

Then they compound things by being so stubborn, they let Marner walk in free agency for nothing.

Now you have an unbalanced and uninspired team lead by a past his prime GM, and an old school coach whom the league has passed by….but hey, he glares meanly on the bench so that's cool I guess? Other teams have either brought in young, new GMs, or young, new coaches, (or both). They have recognized the changing dynamic of the NHL, players, their mentalities, etc. And they have tried to adapt for the new NHL.

Leafs seem stuck in the past at the moment. Ironically, they tried this with Dubas and Keefe. The thought was right but the execution was poor, and I suspect Shanahan was micromanaging, which became obvious after the Dubas departure. Ironically, Keefe and Dubas are both seeing success this season with their new teams (although yes, it is early).

And my Habs are seeing some good progression. But again, they went off the board with hiring Marty St. Louis as coach, and Kent Hughes as GM…both who were "new thinkers" but never had experience. So far so good.

  9. Adam is right. It's a systems issue and it comes from Derek Lalonde. This is the exact problem the Red Wings had last year. It's not a coincidence.

  10. It doesn't help the the Leafs are one of the least desirable teams to make a deal with in terms of what they can offer in return. No picks to offer, no prospects to offer and the only roster players that they want to make available are admittedly not good enough to even play on this bad Leafs product 😢

  11. GIVE BACK FRASER MINTEN AND 1ST ROUND DRAFT PIC ! YOU CAN HAVE COTTONELLE CARLO BACK FOR A BAG OF SCRIMAGE PUCKS !!

  12. Here's the thing – you don't lose a player like Marner and become a better team. If you got rantanen to replace him sure, or necas, or something of that caliber. But losing Marner and not replacing his production means a worse leafs team this year. History is going to show that last year was the high water mark for this team. The biggest problem with the leafs has always been (and I've said this forever!!) is overstating the value and contributions of auston Matthews. Yes he scored 60 goals but when you look and WHeN those goals were scored and how many multi goal games there were that were relatively low meaning games and a lack of performance in games that mattered, Matthews is actually at the top of that list. If this team wanted to change it's culture and win it would trade Reilly and Matthews for a kings ransom. They need to think like Vegas or Florida. When it's not working you take a big swing, like Vegas did on Eichel and Florida did on Tkachuk.

  13. So trade a 4th liner for another 4th liner ? Steve, you’re SHOUTING AT THE RAIN. If the leafs weren’t bad you’d have NOTHING TO SAY !

  14. the only thing the Oilersa are going to want from the leafs is Joseph woll and leafs probably dont want to give him up.

  15. Who ever hired Brennan Shanahan is to blame for this last decade of horrible failure. Dubas was horrific and Treliving is doing his best to be worst. It's over this team will never ever win with this group.

  16. adam saying marner wasnt a defensive player just showed his hockey i.q, the kid was selke candidate, easily top 7 ,2 player in the game

  17. Tell Reilly and Mathews to submit a 5 team trade list or you're putting them on waivers…..Play hardball…They will submit 5 teams.

  18. Too much picking at the belly-button. Let the Leafs muddle out of their quandary. They do have two captains and a lot of beef. Everything will fix itself on the ice

  19. “Hey guys! Great idea! Why don’t we trade players that nobody wants for players that are valued?!” Nice logic!

  20. Why are we talking about regular season when it comes to Brad's moves. He created a very good playoff team. This is the regular season team they should have expected.

  21. The Leafs are in transition. What they need to do is work on their defensive drills particularly in their own end and start back checking. Their offense is fine. They need to limit trying to make a pretty pass in their own end and just quickly move the puck out. It's not a pretty play it will be basic dump and chase action but it will frustrate the other team more. This is a Berube job not Brad. Brad needs to concentrate on replacing Marner.

  22. Laughton Carlo were totally screw jobs for Toronto Minten is a better player than Carlo plus they gave a first round which would be good to rebuild which they should do Dubas Shanaplan terrible Treliving is worse Keith Pelley should fire Treliving quickly

  23. Matthew Knies was terrible at the start of the year so how can you say he shows up every night Plus Pierre McGuire says Knies can be better so take Knies off your list With how bad the defense is put Stolarz the goalie in your list

  24. In 2031 another ring will be removed from the Stanley Cup to make room for the new Champions taking away notation that the Leafs ever won a cup.

  25. I rant every episode the leafs are 'over systemed' to the point they hesitate before making any play, because they are thinking too much, and it has to flow naturally.

  26. The Blue Jays picked up Popkins who was pivotal to their season and the Leafs do the opposite and pick up Lalonde, who may be pivotal to their season in the opposite way xD.

  27. Marner was approximately +100 over the past five seasons, so just subtract that right away. He was clearly contributing to a LOT of defense (by having the puck on his stick most of the time). I mean, he is +10 after 15 games with a real team.
