  1. 34 broke his back playing meaningless late season games chasing a personal record. injured in playoffs missed games. where was mgmt? and they reward him with the C. this is the Leafs franchise in a nutshell. incompetence starting at the top

  2. Bunky, of course, JT's contract had an adverse effect on the young guns' contract. Look no further than your beloved Habs. Suzuki signed for peanuts, when your captain does that…. everyone takes a discount when it is their term. JT could have led and taken a discount to come home! ( which he finally figured out last year)

  3. Big Habs fan and I had to come get some levity from the arse knocking we got tonight. Love the leafs talk boys, let the tank season commence!

  4. Tavares should have never let his captaincy go. Tavares should still be our captain and let Matthews be the best player. The captain doesn’t have to be our best player, just consistently a leader.

  5. Outshot 37 to 15. There were no positives. Berube walks out and says the same thing every post game. They get outshot EVERY game. LA didn't play well at all. Hildeby played well. That's the only positive. FOUR SHOTS ON GOAL IS NOT A GOOD FIRST PERIOD. Matthews being on the ice means nothing. He and the rest of them were playing awful game after game when he was playing. People need to stop acting as if Matthews is the best player on the team and shows up every night. He is useless. He is no captain. They play the same garbage game with him as they do without him.

  6. I thought Tavares' play last season was an anomaly but, to his credit, he's just continued on. If only the Leafs would follow his example. Nylander is playing like Nylander and Knies, although a bright spot, isn't as tough as last season. The rest of the team, excluding Tanev are … meh!

JD Bunkis: The fallacy of 110%; it just doesn't exist. Most of the best players give you 90% which is twice as good as the average NHLer. The superstars will give you 95% and when they really, really try will give you 100%. That's it and is called reality.

  7. At least the Leafs turned it on in the 3rd…they nearly doubled (7) the shots they took combined (8) in the 1st & 2nd…That's impressive 👍😁

  8. Treliving's old team in the basement, Leafs heading that way. Pelley didn't hire him. Clean house at the top. Get Kevin McDonald (Avs asst. GM) and DeBoer (at least short-term/3 yrs) to turn this around. No assets to work with, but DON'T give up more for quick fixes, which Tre will certainly do if he's still here.

  9. nobody seems to get why Toronto loses 2 big reasons they lose 1..Stop dumping the puck into the corner every time you get the darn puck and 2 turn over's in your own zone

  10. when you keep dumping the puck into the oppositions corner's your giving up a scoring opportunity and when you do this on a power play its just plain dump when Toronto carries the puck in they have more success in winning

  11. The team is made up of a lot of guys who are capable of biting back. It isn’t their first instinct . the guy at the top has zero interest in mucking it up. So there’s no leadership pulling the team in that direction . It’s just human nature to go with the crowd. Tough teams play tough up and down the lineup and that’s not because every guy is a mucker – it’s because the expectation is set from the top . They aren’t in the fight because there’s no leader pulling them in to the fight. I like matthews and I’ll defend him to most but he’s too soft to change the personality of the team.
    Bring me Naz.

  12. Correct JD.. I hate watch the Maple Laughs and love the crying of Leaf fans LOL 1967 forever

  13. ROY snd JOSHAUA are embarrassments!!! Also Matthew's is not their best guy FFS, Nylander * one way * Tavares * two way* are better this year and last year!

  14. This is my 4th season here watching Leafs Talk. You guys used to be really hard on old Johnny T when it was popular to do so. I get the contract makes it easier to be nice but let’s not pretend you didn't dump on his foot speed and shoveling it to the net constantly a few years ago. THAT'S MY CAPTAIN!

  15. Matthew Knies is an example of why the NHL is so mid across the boards now. Every guy that comes out of the NCAA thinks they are a finesse guy…SOFT, 10-PLY!

  16. Where are the pro scouts? If Boston pickup a guy who couldn’t score no more than 22 goals in his first 4 seasons in the NHL but scores since January 1st 40 goals why can’t they find someone like that? So far the pro scouting staff isn’t looking so good in mining out a hidden gem for other organizations who can shine in Berube system. They don’t need another slow aging veteran that being reported they’re thinking about trading for. What they need is young players with speed and hard checking and penalty kill abilities to a least play on the 3rd or 4th line! And it wouldn’t hurt to pluck a 5th or 6th defenseman who can pass the puck!

In the name of Punch Imach stop shooting for the stars and just go for someone who goes unnoticed but becomes a steady surprise….you know like what the two Florida teams do.

  17. What's the big deal, I've been watching the same Toronto make me laughs since they last won the cup in 67. 3 good years, 12 that are for the money. If you don't expect anything, you'll never be disappointed.

  18. Where did “all of the expectations” come from? The Leafs are performing worse than I expected statistically, but I did not have them as a lock for playoffs with Marner leaving.

You can only win with one of Auston, Willy, or Mitch. Two or more kill the locker room.

  19. JT I hated he left Isles but, I get it. I wasn’t one of the fans killing him. I killed our inept GM Snow, is he in hockey? Party on Garth. He got nothing, absolutely nothing for a future hall of famer. Brutal

  20. "Flip plays off the boards away from where support actually is" perfectly articulates what I was thinking. They're being picked apart by teams that have watched video and know where they're going, and the Leafs aren't adapting. It's the exact same problem with their powerplay. And I don't believe for one second that Berube is telling them not to make good breakout passes when they're available. I've noticed guys have their head down and aren't even aware of their options. I thought at times last night Nylander was visibly frustrated by several chip plays that were immediate turnovers when he was wide open in stride exactly how you'd draw it up.
