  1. Okay so for sure bulshit that the Situation Room can do that, but you're going to review the play and not call the hook on Hayes? It's the whole reason that the hand pass even happened. Human refs are literally destroying all sports

  2. Obvious the league wants Pittsburgh in the playoffs so they will give them all the calls like the did in there cup runs

  3. fucking bruuuuutal! like, was it the follow through? surely you can't fault a player for a reaction that isnt even handled by the brain??? same sort of reactions that make u take ur hand off a hot stove, how is he supposed to stop that? not playing soccer here where players are trained to not touch it with their arms lmao

  4. Cheating Tampa thought they could get away with it lmao.. and that cringe announcer saying a hand pass shouldn’t be a hand pass if it’s “self defense” 😂😂😂 what a joke!

  5. For all the people crying in the comments…
    Those are the rules.

    It w a s a hand pass.

  6. Don't hate the call hate the rule. By rule this is a hand pass and called correctly. If you think the rule is bs that's understandable. But the call is correct

  7. "In the NHL, a player can bat or push a puck with their hand to a teammate only if the play is initiated and completed in their own defensive zone. If a hand pass to a teammate occurs in the neutral or offensive zone, play is stopped for a face-off."

Seems like a pretty straight forward rule, and what occurred was CLEARLY a hand pass based on the rule. If the refs made the right call on the ice the situation room wouldn't have had to break Tampa's heart.

  8. Self defense? WTF? Who are these guys. It was hit by his hand directly to a team mate. How much more of a hand pass can you get?

  9. The homer announcers here are the real tragedy. BOrderline "handpass" but not self defense. The rule is in place and this time it was correctly upheld by none other than the great Wes McCauley. Good call, tough call. Exhilirating to game from start to finish.

  10. Ticky tac call.. technically sure… seen a lot more egregious than that not get called and not get reviewed.

  11. "it's self-defense I can't see how they could take a goal away from this when a guy is literally defending himself from getting hit with a puck" Lol which team's commentator is this I wonder.

  12. When the puck was thrown at the glass, did the player on the receiving end intend to pass it afterwards? 🙂 He literally didn't know where the puck would go, so he covered his face with the glove to protect himself.

  13. People saying a hand pass requires intention, here's the rule:

Hand Pass – "A player shall be permitted to stop or “bat” a puck in the air with his open hand, or push it along the ice with his hand, and the play shall not be stopped unless, in the opinion of the on-ice officials, he has directed the puck to a teammate, or has allowed his team to gain an advantage, and subsequently possession and control of the puck is obtained by a player of the offending team, either directly or deflected off any player or official."

Intention does not matter, as per the rule. Don't mistake 'directed the puck to a teammate' for requiring intention, that's a description clarifying one of the different ways the puck may come into possession of the offending team. If intention mattered, it would be stated in the first part with "intentionally stop or bat a puck".

A clarification I found online: "This is where the hand pass rule is most strictly enforced. A hand pass in the offensive zone results in an immediate whistle and stoppage of play, *regardless of whether the puck was batted intentionally or not*. This rule ensures that scoring opportunities remain fair and are created using stick play and positioning."

  14. I mean sure, it technically hit him in the hand before another player of the same team touched the puck in the offensive zone, but to call it a hand pass is a little generous.

With the rate that NHL referees get stuff wrong regularly anyway I would be fully in favor of getting rid of the ability to review things like offsides and the likes. There's clearly a disconnect between what the spirit of the rule is and how literally it is taken and executed.
