  1. The Bruins better try to start icing a lineup that can do more damage at 5×5 because since November 17th the wheels have begun to fall off offensively at 5×5

Defensively the Bruins have been one of the worst 5×5 teams in the NHL, so even the injuries haven't really changed that fact all that much

Since November 17th (the Bruins last 9 games) their overall record is 4-5 (a losing record)

The Boston Bruins 5×5 metrics since November 17th?

    27th: CF%
    27th: SF%
    26th: GF
    21st: xGF
    31st: SCA
    30th: HDCA
    32nd xGA
    16th GA

The things that initially helped keep the Bruins afloat at 5×5 was the fact that they were getting a ton of bounces, good puck luck and terrible goaltending by their opponents alongside their own elite goaltending and elite special teams

    What's happened since November 17th?

They have cratered offensively at 5×5 while the defense at 5×5 has continued to stink as it has all year

Even though they're only 16th in 5×5 goals conceded since November 17th they are DEAD LAST in Expected 5×5 Goals Against (xGA) which means if Swayman isn't having a Top 5 goalie season, they'd probably be 28th-32nd in 5×5 GA on the year, let alone since November 17th

Even when healthy the Bruins aren't a good 5×5 team as 80% or more of NHL games are played at 5×5 if the Bruins don't start figuring something out to up their 5×5 offense while also stopping being one of the most dreadful 5×5 teams defensively in the NHL…

I'm telling you right now, the losses are going to start piling up because it's not realistic that the current Bruins game plan for winning games will continue to be sustainable…. That formula is already beginning to crack

    That game plan?

Jeremy Swayman stops 38 of 40
The PK goes 5 for 5 in kills
    The power play scores

The Bruins need a better game plan if they actually want to try to continue to be competitive this year because they are putting far too much pressure on their goaltending and special teams to stay afloat all season
