@Oilers d'Edmonton

  1. They literally blew this team up. They tore the playoff run roster apart for no reason whatsoever 😭😭😭 as an edmonton local, truly destroys me

  2. without a top 5 goalie the oilers will have to pray for a hot goalie and no injuries to win 1 cup
with a top 5 goalie they could win several

  3. I think the Oilers stopped playing in front of Skinner, and they just needed a change in there tbh I don’t think this is any deeper than that

  4. As a Blackhawks fan I can tell you this is what you get when Stan Bowman is your GM.

  5. As a Pens fan who hates Jarry: Jarry is likely the better goalie. But I'm just so glad Jarry is gone.

  6. I love this trade to be honest. Both goalies needed a change and got it. Both got debute games last night and good old skinner almost fucked it up down 5-1 made crosby work for his money…..

  7. Jarrys advanced metrics have been trending up. As skinner have been dropping. This is an advanced stat "big brain" trade. I dont think these money ball kinda tactics translate well to nhl hockey but we will see if it pans out for edmonton.

  8. It's simple. Skinner wanted out. His wife wanted out. They received death threats after losing again in the SCF. My guess is St Louis didn't want Skinner and / or Kulak and the deal fell through. Oilers had no other real options and decided to go with a similar goalie. Kulak also wanted out and made that clear in the off-season that he wouldn't be re-signing with Edmonton. A deal probably would have happened a lot sooner, but it seems Edmonton wanted to deal Skinner and Kulak and be done with it.

  9. Im telling you as crazy as it sounds you need to trade Leon Draisaitl. He's a complete asshole to his own players.

  10. In regard to this trade, I’m kind of on the fence because I don’t really see it as an upgrade. That said, I think both the Oilers and Skinner needed a change. Unfortunately for Oilers fans, there just wasn’t a team willing to take on Skinner’s contract. Because of that, this was really the only trade that could work, and it had to be through Pittsburgh just to make the salary cap math make sense.

So given Edmonton’s circumstances, I think this was the best they could do. There really wasn’t anything else out there because of the cap situation and the need to move Skinner. When you look around the league, what goalies could they realistically target in a trade? I don’t think Saros was getting moved, and in Detroit, are those goalies really an upgrade? I don’t think so.

It’s one of those situations where this feels more like a side trade, not an up or down move. Ultimately, I think the Oilers lost the trade based on what they gave up, but at the same time, they might gain something just from making the change. A bit of a breath of fresh air.

As for the Binnington trade, I’d be interested to know what the Blues were asking and whether it would’ve even been worth pursuing. He’s really the only other goalie who felt like a realistic option, but the issue is that St. Louis was probably unwilling to take Skinner back in return.

  11. Jarry was terrible in the one playoff series he's played in. He was pretty much responsible for the series loss. He's definitely played better this season so who knows.

  12. As a Pens fan I think the biggest win in the trade is finally getting rid of that God awful contract and now they have some decent cap space moving into the next few year. Pens will probably just keep trying out young goalies until they find one and continue rebuilding in front.

  13. Haven't watched Jarry enough to have a take on will he be better but one thing Oilers got right for sure is that Skinner had to move. Love the guy, but more like as like a guy I'd like to go out have a beer with.

  14. It’s the defence! Not Skinner! That needs improving! Lately the defence is playing better …. But we actually need a power forward more … along with a big bruising intimidating defenceman !
