I agree that some picks should be used to acquire more-ready NHL talent but the bulk of the Penguins new core should still come from the draft. You have slim to no chance of acquiring your next franchise center that way, as what teams have talented 1Cs that they're willing to part with? What teams are willing to give up an excellent, young first D pairing-level player? We shouldn't be getting anyone that's closer to 30 than 20 if you prioritize the team's long-term success. It seems a waste of draft capital to use a "get good quick" scheme to just make the playoffs, it's better for the team long-term to get solid draft picks for a couple years than try to create some hodge-podge roster that will suck again once Sid retires.
I agree… graves should be playing instead of letang & kulak looks terrible
I admit I don't know much about Chinakhov, but hearing that he will shoot the puck, from anywhere, is very nice to hear.
Dubas sitting on a pile of draft picks hope this trade works out.
If Chino can stay healthy, hes gonna be a good mid 6 winger. Hes got the legs and the shot with a wicked release, only 24 and RFA after this season with arbitration rights, so team has control and doesnt have to worry about losing him after this season. His main downside is that hes also had the injury bug in the past few seasons which is what has held him back besides being on a junk team… BJs are last place in the East, so cant scrutinize his stats all that much. Hes been on a 40-50 point pace most years, but injuries and a garbage team have held him back.
Overall, I think its going to be a good move for the future. Specially because we still have 2nd round pick in 2026, didnt have to give up our 1st round pick, and this offseason is projected to have 40-50M open cap space. Give Brazeau another year or 2, if Gino wants to stay 1 more year and mentor Chino like Gonch did for him, it be an even better situation.
I love it – IF IF IF they have a VERY real PLAN for this guy AND made that plan 100% clear to the kid before they pulled the trigger.
Kulak is new give him a brake different system few more games to see. Letang different story I think he's washed up sad cause I love the guy😢
