Interesting how 22-23 was the best but still in the bottom half, eh refs?

  2. Deep-Yard32

We also have the most suspensions in that period i think too lmao

  3. DAKiloAlpha

Yet hockey fans love saying there’s a Toronto bias because it’s the biggest fan base. 🤔

  4. DepartureOwn1817

Interesting. I would also like to see which teams have been suspended the most and draw the most suspensions.

  5. AssistantGeneral1996

Who received the most power plays in that period

  6. wtfhiolol10000

Kevin Papetti knows nothing about science/statistics or he’s just rage baiting.

  7. sherjones77

Now do it for times shorthanded, bet the leafs are in the top 10 for that metric.

  8. Friggin_Grease

Wow they were as high as 18th? That’s crazy.

  9. TubbyTantrum100

This is also with having one of the best and highest scoring teams in the league during this period.

My favourite though is when there is a scrum in front of the net, Leafs always manage to pick up the extra penalty

This has to be brought up at the nhl president’s/owners meetings. It is almost farcical how blatant the numbers are.

The first year we played the Panthers in the second round, they were the most penalized team in the league in the regular season.

Then the most penalized team in Round 1.

Then historically clean in Round 2 (including a full game with 0 penalties).

Then the most penalized team in Round 3, and the most penalized team in the SCF.

Reffing is awful in this league. Playoff reffing is another level of bullshit.

  12. XPhazeX

Clearly they are too busy being goons and grinders, thus taking penalties instead of being awarded then

  13. WillNytheScoringGuy

Seriously this should be a bigger story what the actual fuck that can’t be a coincidence, I bet if we even in the top half of the league in any of those years we would get a considerable bump in the standings.

  14. The-Only-Razor

People always say its the style of play not lending itself to drawing penalties. Maybe that was true at some point, but these stats span 3 coaches and vastly different styles of play. Our roster went from small and fast to bigger and heavier. We can’t get a whistle no matter who we ice, who our coach is, or where we are in the standings. The NHL is just terrified of ever throwing the Leafs a bone because the rest of the league, especially other Canadian teams, will throw a fit.

  15. Blue_KikiT92

All other teams are simply more disciplined, that’s all. Especially when they play against us. And especially the Florida panthers, of course… The cleanest team in the league 🫶🏻

  16. BlueAndYellowTowels

This means nothing. By virtue of there being an order and teams, someone will ALWAYS be 32.

It’s kinda like the Stanley Cup. All 16 teams could be absolute trash, but you will still have a champion. Regardless of the quality of play.

So, I think it’s more about the difference between the top and bottom.

  17. Coffeedemon

Where do they rank in terms of generating revenue from the league and (although I imagine these stats are hard to find) online betting outlets? I think you’ll soon find out why no-one will ever look into this.

  18. StatGAF

what about times shorthanded? Those two are often linked

  19. Tontoorielly

For a skilled team, you would think they would be higher. Watch them play. As soon as they are checked, they stop skating and accept that they’ve been stopped. If they kept their feet moving and forced the opposition to continue checking them after the puck is gone, they would draw way more penalties. It is hard work, though.

  20. bootygoon2

And don’t forget those teams over that span have had three different coaches and played different systems with each of them. So you can’t even argue that “it’s a result of [insert coach]’s system”.

  21. McRoshiburgito

    Florida:

    25-26 – 1st

    24-25 – 4th

    23-24 – 6th

    22-23 – 5th

    21-22 – 2nd

    20-21 – 2nd

I will say, some teams respect another power play so much that they make it apart of their game plan to play it safe. Edmonton seems like they’re fairly low on the list usually… but Colorado has had a pretty good PP and seems to be near the top each year as well.

  22. desperatehouseknivez

Holy crap, they went as high as 18th!? Nuts lol

  23. billbelichickssmile

    It’ll never change unfortunately

  24. DALESR4EVER124

So… basically, we never get powerplays compared to everyone else?

  25. amd_air

We’ve always been a strong 5 on 5 team. Leafs generally play far too safe on power plays and nobody wants to take the shot. I’ve been screaming « shoot!!! » Since I was in diapers.
