Conroy was on HappyTalk 960 and said that the Flames tried to resign Rasmus this past summer but couldn't reach an agreement. Would have been nice to hear why but that question was never asked. So frustrating that Flames media is so reluctant to ask the hard questions.
The prospect doesn't seem good at all. We got nothing in this deal. This is quantity that doesn't seem to be good

Speaking of center prospects. 1st no team in the bottom 16 has any inclination to trade you a good center prospect. You are really only talking about the top 8 teams and then if they have a sure fire #1 center prospect is he not already playing or have they got 5 sure fire #1 centers and they are willing to let you have 1, obviously not. But assuming he is too young to play (18-19) but was a first round pick, then he would be a late 1st round pick because you're trading with one of the top teams. So is this much different than just using the #1 pick to draft your own center. Now, if you are happy with getting a 2nd round center pick from last year then you're a lucky man because we could go make a bunch of those trades fairly easily.

Another disappointing trade. Quantity , not quality like Rasmussen was. We give up blue chip get roster players. Those first round picks are going to be very late in the round. We really didn’t get much here.

The Players have way too much Control now. These NMC and NTC have t o be CHANGED in the next CBA. Why have GM's if they really can't do their Job properly. You mean to tell me that THIS was the best Players Conny could get?? The Draft Picks are fine. I would've went for a Center at least. Whitecloud hopefully gets packaged up with Coleman to Dallas for a HIGH Pick and a Center? Which the Flames NEED badly.
The most important part of this trade is it enables Calgary to plumet down the standings even further. The return we got is just icing on top for me.

Bad trade. Rasmus will sign with Vegas cus they tampered with another potential UFA. Not getting Connelly and a first was ugly. We only got a duster, a guy who will never play in the NHL, and magic beans.

NHL is turning into a racket. There was tampering going on with the trade. GMs are in a tough spot because they can’t burn bridges with other GMs and they don’t want to piss off the agents. UFAs hold all the cards in their contract year. I really like Whitecloud and your blueline us really shaping up. Pretty physical and deep. Still it feels like it always does with Vegas… they just always get what they want. It’s a racket.
I guess I"m the only Flames fan that likes Whitecloud – he's an under-rated player & I think he could fit in here & take on a leadership role. But mostly I'm sad to see Andersson leave – I'll miss the staredowns. I think Conroy has shown the ability to turn even later picks into quality players, so I think we'll get someone decent that will be worth at least as much as a rental.
Flames trades are considerably underwhelming!
I really don't care that this trade was with Vegas. Calgary moved a failed first round draft pick (Sven Baertschi) to Vancouver for their 2nd round pick which became Rasmus Andersson. Calgary got 584 games and 261 points out of Andersson who was considered to be too fat, too lazy coming out of the CHL. The Flames return, at the minimum, is a first, a second, a 2nd pairing NHL D, and a "B" college prospect that Calgary does not even need an offer a contract to until August 15, 2027. CONROY WINS.
2024 was not a good year to trade Rasmus. His -38 +/- lowered his value. This season, he built his value back up and I think that Calgary received exactly what Andersson was worth, possibly a little more.
Calgary got a haul for Rasmus. 1&2 picks and then a tradable asset in Whitecloud is amazing. I wouldn’t doubt them getting at least a 3rd for Whitecloud maybe a 2nd depending on what’s attached.
A second for tanev is a crime that’s probably what they can get for Whitecloud
Many things I'm hearing from other Flames fans are crazy. Quinn Hughes got 4 assets, and UFA, rental Rasmus got 4 assets! That Wild 1st will likely be worse than the 1st from Vegas. Now, those other 3 assets from Minny are better than our 3 assets from Vegas, BUT HUGHES is absolutely top 1% of the league ELITE and signed for another year. No way we were getting more than 4 assets for Rasmus, or multiple firsts and an elite young player if Hughes didn't get that. Have some perspective.
Whitecloud is a dependable and consistent and will do his job for 60 minutes.
