Alex Tuch would make 1000x more sense than Panarin.

  3. ThousandToast

I think he’s right. We need someone younger than 34

  4. HappyChilmore

We also need a winger who’s bigger.

  5. Builder_studio

It only makes sense for a team who are nearing the end of their contention window (like a Toronto maybe)

  6. What? What rebuild? We havent been rebuilding in almost 2 years. We were a playoff team last year and added amazing players since then. Our roster is ridiculous. We are at the gogogo stage lol. Our team’s potential will be worse next year and even moreso the year after because our ELCs are expiring. After that it depends on Zharovsky, we might have another 3 year window, but you don’t bet everything on a 2nd rounder having one unheard of year. If we go now we could have a dynasty. We have one of the best rosters I’ve ever seen assembled. Our 2nd line would have every other team crazy excited and buying jerseys if it were their 1st line and we have, based on what I’ve heard, two top 10 dmen. Dont want panarin just hate the explanation.

It’s not that he’s not the achy type they need but age and character issues gm and management has made that clear the don’t want those types of players, gullye or however u spell his name is the type of player and age they looking for the top 6 to be able to grow with the team .

  8. 24Archduke

I don’t think Panarin is the type of player Habs need, but his age has absolutely nothing to do with it.

People were happy with Danault who is 32, people would be ecstatic with Crosby who is 38.

  9. MattDoob

I agree with that assessment, as much as I enjoy watching the bread man play.

  10. Not the least bit interested in adding a rapist to the locker room so good riddance

  11. He’s 34?? I though he was closing his 20s . Wth time flies

  12. Warm-Equipment-4964

Yup, especially considering that he won’t come for free either. I would never let go a reinbacher or any other prospect for someone 10 years older than our core

  13. bulltank

I dont agree with this. I’m not saying Panarin is the right choice, but I do feel that if Montreal were to add 1-2 players, we have a real chance of going far in the playoffs.

I feel we can go far with our current team, but I cant see how adding a big player to the team couldnt help. Theres no big time veterans on our team.

  14. Efficient_Falcon_402

I generally think Arps is useless, but he’s spot on here.

  15. JediMasterZao

My issue with Panarin has nothing to do with his age and everything to do with the fact that he’s a perimeter player, which is not the kind of fit we need on the first line. Because otherwise, I’d be all over that player. He’s one of the best wingers in the game.

  16. AlertCranberry5740

Not often I agree with The Athletic but I do here. They are more than one piece away from being a contender. No need to pretend otherwise and waste assets.

  17. Ok-Win-742

34, overpaid, best years are behind him.

Don’t get me wrong, Panarin is a great player and he probably has another couple seasons on him before his numbers take a dive. But it’s just not what we need… Too old, too expensive, too much term and he’s another smaller skill player. We really need size.

If he was 6’4 it would be worth discussing.

  18. capebretoncanadian

Jeez man Panarin on the top line almost makes them contenders in my eyes. They would be looking good except for the goaltending.

  19. scrubadam

two seconds and Struble? or 1st and a Struble?

Sure why not would take the playoff run at that cost. Struble doesn’t have a future here and late 1st or 2 late seconds aren’t going to sink the franchise.

I have warmed up to the idea of Stamkos. Contract fits in with Hage/Z development. He can play C in a pinch. 27 last year, 30 this year and probably 30 next year especially playing with Cole/Nick or Demi.

  20. shunassy86

We need a goalie more than anything they score enough we just can’t buy a save sometimes yea defence does have some lapses which turn into goals but they why good goalies make those saves

  21. Okbutwhythat

I’d rather not acquire a guy with a history of sexual assault.

No matter how good at hockey.

  22. SoupFromNowOn

I disagree with the idea that we need a top six winger, or even a 2C necessarily. Offense is not a huge issue for us right now, we’re scoring a lot, and we have an excess of forwards in our system.

We could use a middle six two-way winger. I like Evangelista on Nashville. We also need a strong right-handed defenseman, but that’s difficult. I think the Matheson signing was a mistake. Not that Matheson’s bad, but he’s more of an offensive guy, and we already have Hutson and Dobson plus we have too many lefty dmen.

  23. TheBergster84

1000% agreeing with him and Hughes probably do too.

  24. antoinePucket

IMO the best playmaker in the league, but I’d pass too
