I haven’t been around the sub to see the discussion on this, but personally I »m baffled – we don’t need another top-6 winger, and given the salary implications it would seem to require something significant going out. Unless ‘we’ think Landy is out long-term, I don’t see Panarin as being the guy we should disrupting the team to go after.
But maybe I’m missing something.
Vivid_Walk_1405
I mean we’re absolutely better with panarin on the 2nd line zero doubt in my mind but feel like 3C and LHD are more apparent issues. That said a
Lehky-Mack-Necas
Panarin-Nelson-Nuke
Top 6 is easily the best top 6 in the league no doubt in my mind
dhas19
Might be alone, but I don’t think we really need more help in the scoring department. More depth for a playoff run would be ideal, but our high end players (outside Landy) have shown they’re relatively durable.
Do I think he’d help a powerplay? Maybe. Do I think adding him will simply fix our PP problems? No.
hockeyandhalloween
We are not Vegas with unlimited assets. The chemistry of THIS team is unreal and I don’t want to mess with it much. That said losing Rants last year gutted me but Marty would make me do it All again
Waramp
We don’t need him, we just traded for Puustinen.
Saltyspiton
I feel like the Avs are always rumored to be in on big name guys like this and then they never pull the trigger. Johnathan Toews and Ehlers just from this offseason alone. Kinda curious how true this actually is
aldiwankenobi
Hmmm…. With Solovyov gone, I’m thinking Colton might be the one for Panarin?
Edit: it’s not Olaf but Ilya traded, sorry.
Comwan
Does he fit?
He would play on the 2 which pushes Landy to the 3 (or Lehky?). Then it would be Ross playing center with Olaf. Pushing Jack to the 4C with Kells and Brindley.
That just doesn’t work well imo
I would prefer we go after a Jack level center. Then letting our 4th line be Jack, Kelly and Brindley/LOC (which is a really unfair 4th line).
maverick-nightsabre
hm I don’t see the fit, or the need, or how we could possibly make a competitive bid for him unless NYR (possibly smartly) would take our 2030 1st and Malinski or something like that.
SMF1834
Absolutely not, he’s not gritty and in the playoffs you need that, he hangs around the wings waiting for the perfect shot and tries to dangle his way in for goals. Def not worth the cost to get him here. Would he be a good QB on the PP2? Maybe, but that’s all he brings.
Big_Liability
I don’t see the need much?
DerKomissar99
I very much would not want this trade consummated. It does not make us better.
puffpuffpass01
MGMT should be looking to have a deadline similar to 2022
Giroux was the big fish that year, and a lot of noise about him coming to Denver. But instead we made sneaky moves for guys like Lehkonen and Cogliano
Important_Horse_4293
I don’t think we need him tbh.
not_taylorswift1213
Everybody in this comment section: “I might be alone but I don’t think this would be a good move.”
Me actually alone: “This would be freaking awesome”
CatManDeke
I guess it’s up to him if he wants to be on a winning team.
ObiWan_Cannoli_
He’s going to go to washington. He’ll wanna stay close to home (he’s been in nyc for six years) and he’ll probably stay in that area next contract. Caps have way more to offer in terms of prospects too – don’t think the rangers are looking for picks think they want to quicken this “not a rebuild”
Woah-Baby
I would rather have him than have to play against him.
If a roster player and a pick is all they’re asking for a rental then I’m all for it because he has one year on his contract so he’s going to a contender. Minnesota, Dallas, and Vegas are all potential landing spots.
Adding Panarin to those rosters makes them a lot stronger so I’m not sure why people here don’t think he’d make our team stronger as well.
rbkamp321
He seems to have a lot of problems in the locker room. Rangers fans can’t stand him. If he comes here and has problems with Mackinnon and that leads to this team not thriving together I would hate Panarin forever.
Let him go on to a different team and ruin their cup run. We do not need a diva or a cancer in the locker room.
quipsdontlie
The Rangers just had to pay off one of their social media managers because he sexually assaulted her. Don’t really want to root for this guy on the avs.
frostyjack06
Unless he’s playing center, happy with a bottom 6 role, and someone is retaining 75% of his cap hit, this is a waste. Otherwise, you’d need to trade 2-3 guys to make that work, and that’s going to rock the locker room.
MarleysGhost2024
It would be nice, but we don’t need him.
GaryOakRobotron
No idea how the Avs could afford him, especially since my assumption is a strong 3C us the team’s biggest need right now. But the FO is way smarter at hockey than I am, so I’m prepared to be surprised if they end up doing something here.
TrustFast5420
If the Avs did this, you’re likely looking at Lehkonen on the 3rd line.
And maybe that works…you get off Colton’s cap hit for next year, the Rangers get a pick for retaining, and the Avs have cap to get a 3C next year so you can have that Kelly/Drury/O’Connor 4th line that is a nightmare for opponents. The new 3C would pair with Olofsson (or a similar type of FA) and Brindley.
I don’t love it but that would give the Avs a ton of firepower in their top 6 (Panarin/Mac/Necas and Landy/Nelson/Big Val), plus the bottom 6 would still be solid (Olofsson/Drury/Lehkonen and Kelly/Bardakov/Brindley until LOC is back).
Massive_Contract_908
Well if this is at all like last time he’ll pick the big city, and he’ll choose to play with ovechkin
Effective-Car-3736

Canadian__Ninja
Unless they think nuke or Landy are out longer term than we think I have no idea why we want him
Massive_Contract_908
Trochek and panarin coming over in the same deal would be spectacular
2ChainzTalib
Depth is a big part of why the Avalanche have been such a unit this year. I don’t really see how sacrificing that to add to a top 6 that’s already rolling is helpful.
notthatguypal6900
Don’t need and don’t have anything to give that would make this a win.
tonhtubra
Just because Elliotte mentioned the Avs made a big push for him when he was a free agent, people have been saying the Avs are interested in him now. I think that was just him wondering but everyone takes comments like that as he must know something we don’t. Nah, I think he was just wondering based upon the history.
Now would/should the Avs kick the tires on Panarin? Sure, but I would be shocked if they went for him now. It’s been seven years since he was a free agent. He’s not the same player they were trying to get then, still really good but not top 10 in league good like he was.
If he comes on the cheap, ok, he could add to our depth, but how do you fit him in? Put him with Mack and Necas? Who’s going to do the dirty work that Lehkonen does. Put him with Nuke and Nelson? Could be interesting but will he put in the defensive effort that Bednar wants from that line?
I’ll be shocked if this happens.

If it ain’t broke……
XxNHLxX
Much rather use the 1st rounder (plus+) for a guy that could stay for a second or third season than go all in on one guy for this single run. I get that it could be the piece that gets you there, but it’s also immediately getting worse and likely digging your hole for next season if it doesn’t 100% work out. As good as Panarin is, I also don’t see him taking a discount to stay, plus they don’t need another elite right handed player for the PP. Get a 3C, or if Landy is looking risky, a top 9 LW to help allow Lehky/Nuke to move around.
grizzlyman87
If all it takes is Colton and a pick, I’m game. Panarin is a game breaker and we’d need that for Dallas or tampa
Ca1fSlicer
If I’m literally any other team I’m all over the Bread man, but we frankly don’t have a need or the cap space for him. Much rather have a kiefer sherwood than panarin if we are actually in search of a winger. If NY is selling Gavrikov is the guy I really want
zestfullybe
I think Vincent Trocheck would be more aligned with what this team could use.
A Panarin deal would depend *greatly* on what goes back, but I don’t think this team really needs the big spash deal. Didn’t in 2022, either. Went with quality depth.
Grab a good 3C and bump Jack to 4C, and a dependable 6/7 D.
Key_Inevitable4754
I just don’t understand what the Avs even have left to trade for such a player. Plus, he’s not taking a pay cut to stay, so he’d be a rental. An expensive rental.
I saw Kadri return rumors too. At least they could find a roster spot for Panarin. Kadri would be 3C at best, he’s not getting Brock’s spot. And Naz has term, so he’d also be expensive AF.
I just don’t see how. Like…. we’d have to trade Val or Artturi & a 1st to get Panarin as a rental. And trade Brock + picks to get Naz. I just don’t get it. We don’t have picks. I would, maybe, only dish Val and a pick for Panarin. But only if he signed to stay. Not for a rental.
We need serviceable injury replacements for the middle of the lineup. Other years we needed bigger trades.
Inexorabull
I wouldn’t complain if Panarin made his way this way for Colton. I think we should be interested in Mario Ferraro.
Glove_Upset
Please no. He and the Rangers had to settle a sexual assault lawsuit against him.
Shenanigans315
Dont need him. Doesn’t fit. Too much to give up for a rental.
onqqq2
Assuming Colton is part of the price… I don’t say no to this…
I mean look at that fucking roster. Not even bringing up the D. I am worried about center depth though. None of the top 3 centers can realistically go out long-term without it becoming an issue I think in a playoff run.
