Holding out hope these games will have playoff implications 🙏🙏
I was considering going to the game in Pittsburgh but my travel buddy dropped out and not sure if I want to go solo.
My family stayed at the Cambria next door to the arena when we were in Pittsburgh last summer. I don’t really have any food recommendations. The only place we ate was PNC Park. The national aviary is in Pittsburgh and is worth checking out if you have the time.
Going to the game in Pittsburgh. If you haven’t been before, I recommend trying Primanti Bros. at least once. They’ve got really good sandwiches.
The Commoner in Pittsburgh has amazing food
Good places to eat or stay in Pittsburgh?
About an hour down I-79 in Morgantown, WV
Moonlit, one block south of the arena. Excellent burgers & brews, you’ll meet a lot of caps fans for the pre-game comraderie
For Pittsburgh – Rick’s Cabaret Sports Bar downtown
Caps fan living in Pittsburgh here. Spitballing stuff as it comes to mind here:
Primanti’s is good but a bit overrated in my opinion. I’d still suggest checking them out and trying one of their classic “Almost Famous” sandwiches if you’ve never been. Pair it with an Iron City Beer or IC Light and you’re 50% converted to a local! If you have any specific types of food you’re interested in I can try to tailor some suggestions to that.
There’s plenty of hotels in downtown Pittsburgh that have cool views from the higher floors and are well within walking distance to PPG Paints Arena, but I imagine they are a bit overpriced. I don’t know from experience personally. Be aware if you stay to the south or east of the city you will have to go through tunnels to get to downtown, and the tunnels always suck in traffic. Game days don’t help. I usually suggest people visiting that aren’t staying in the city itself to look North of the city in the McCandless Twp. area. Decent hotels, and getting into downtown is a 15-20 minute drive usually from the area. Game day traffic obviously changes that though. Really depends on if you want to pay for Arena parking or Hotel parking.
A few touristy things to do here:
– Take a ride on the Incline, and enjoy the view from Mt. Washington.
– Visit the Strip District for cool shops and restaurants.
– South Side has a ton of bars if that’s your thing.
– Visit the National Aviary, Phipps Conservatory, or the Science Center. All cool places.
Again, just kind of spitballing here as I’m half asleep as I type this but hope this helps a bit! Lmk if you have any specific things you’re looking for.
