If you think our owner gives 2 fucks about concessions being way too high for the consumers, idk what to tell ya bud.
People are still gonna buy them. Only way is to get the people who fund the Lenovo center (the state) to pressure or leverage them in some way.
More Perfect Union spitting bars. Going to the Canes game is games are exponentially more expensive which has priced me out of any interest of going.. $160 x 2 for lower bowl, $45 Parking, $15 for a couple of storm brews, 8 for bottle of water.. You’re looking at ~$400 for 2 hours worth of entertainment..
Dont be surprised when traditional sports flounders with younger generations
Oh hey, we’re not the only ones with a fuckin’ $16 hot dog (Sup Dogs in the priority lounges which I don’t ever seem to see people buying from because who wants to pay $16 for a hot dog with some toppings).
We’ve pretty much stopped eating at the arena. We’ll try something new once in a while but the food is rarely worth the cost and it’s pretty easy to just grab something on the way.
Sounds like something u/JeffJacksonNC could be interested in taking a look at to help affordability
Frankly I think this is a big part of the reason for all the empty seats we see on the « sold out » games. Used to be even corporate STH seats would always find takers. Now even « free tickets from my vendor » come with a high overhead that deters casual fans.
I don’t pretend to know the answer. I too remember the days of picking up last-minute lower bowl tickets for $35 and walking over from the « free » Horse Center lot to drink $5 beers — *while watching Bill Peters haplessly coach a playoff-eliminated team*. Turns out pro sports in successful market is expensive. I’m not sure on one hand you can praise an owner for being willing to spend the money to be competitive and on the other curse them for trying to recoup.
I do agree that parking is a bad look and definitely the thing that sticks in my craw the most. You can choose not to drink a beer but you have to park.
Bring back the Caniac Coach!
Throw in the fact it takes like an hour to get an uber or Lyft after a game…
Great share! I’m in Toronto, a city being kneecapped by our provincial government’s tightfistedness. My goal for today is to call around to find out if the arenas and stadium are paying their property taxes, and raising a stink if they aren’t!
Storm Brew need to be $5!
I love the stuffed pretzels with the frozen cheese center. They are only second to the pork nachos that turn into a soup bowl of mess. The food is crap and expensive.
Lenovo charges extremely high rent for business who sell food so to make a profit they have to charge crazy prices for their food
I remember 20 years ago I would park at the fairgrounds for free and walk to avoid the $10 parking. 😂
How do we get this in front of Jeff Jackson? (AG)
Yeah I love the Canes. And I love the Pack (though, I have to be honest I was at the Syracuse game the other night and even though State DESTROYED those asshats once coached by the utter dickhead who put down Greensboro)…but I have to say the cost : entertainment value makes it not worth it. For the State game, the loudest it got (by far) was when we successfully howled for fowl in the waning minutes for some free CFA. Aside from that…the place is a mausoleum, and it’s just not a terribly exciting experience. Women’s games in Reynolds are FAR more of a value.
With the Canes (going tonight…yay), in our current era you at least FEEL like you get something for your money. It’s exciting. The team is elite. Whalers games are great. But we are a dual income household, both in engineering, both making good money even for this area.
To take our family, which is 2 adults and 2 kids…let’s say tickets are $80. Parking is $45. I easily spend $60 on food and ice cream/snacks/other bullshit. $60 in beer (two each).
That’s nearly $500. And my kids wonder why we don’t go to more games. We literally can’t.
And do we have to buy beer or food there? No, absolutely not. But I’m comparing to 10 or 20 years ago. Everything has ALWAYS been expensive at events. But, just like houses, it is disproportionately MORE expensive now. And the parking thing really pisses me off, especially with them gouging during the Playoffs.
Anyway see yall tonight…lol.
Not going to say I *do* or *do not* do this but its fairly easy to bring food into the stadium in pockets of jackets if you don’t take it out going through security. Now I realize not everyone goes to a hockey game to eat trail mix and protein bars…but saving a buck and showing the vendors we won’t indulge in their prices could help lol
