Not the first time this season he has been caught off guard….

With this and the comments about him not being able to stop the shots because they were hard… it seems he’s acting like there’s no problem, and he just keeps getting unlucky.

I know he’s probably rationalizing to keep his spirits up, but I find his reaction to the whole thing a bit frustrating.

As much as he seem like a nice guy, I dont get the feeling Monty has the mindset of a goalie thats going to bounce back. From him saying that he couldnt do anything more in the game against boston and buffalo and not to trust statistics to him being shocked by the goalie coach change, it feel like he doesnt think there is a problem in front of the net

I hope this is the wake up call he need, but I doubt it.

I mean, anyone with eyes can see our problem is definitely the goaltending. We have a great offensive team and our defensive is not the best but does a good enough job too.

We have bad goalers. We can’t get far into the playoffs with bad goalies.

Monty’s drop-off looks bad on paper, but with the team sitting 25th in save %, this feels more systemic than just one goalie regressing. Makes sense they’d adjust the coaching layer first

Still it’s interesting that they went with Marciano, who already has relationships with Montembeault and Fowler – at least you can frame it as continuity and trust (as ironic as it may sound when talking about midseason moves)

What happened to him? He never had such a weak mentality in previous seasons. Can he not handle the pressure now that we’re not tanking anymore?

  7. chickenceas

Can’t wait till this guy is back in the AHL backing up where he belongs.

  8. pushaper

He has not seen such a thing happen at the NHL level before. I think Luongo came in as head of goalie development and Monty was basically put on waivers not long after.

But if he had no clue, or was not asked about who he wants to work with going forth his time is up with the habs.

Maybe all those commercials has him feeling like a star so he can’t see the reality of the situation. On a side note I don’t remember Pricer getting anywhere near the amount of commercials as Monty gets.

  10. Valowzz

He’s completely delusional at this point.

A very poor choice of words lmao

Nobody will read this far so I can say it : Miss you Carey

  13. subz_13

He didnt expect it at least a little bit?

Montys actual quote was “Eric’s firing was like a shot from the blue line. I was completely unprepared for it.”

  15. glumanda12

He’s been caught off guard by every other shot on the ice as well.

  16. bigmonkeyfart

This headline is bullshit, it’s all based on one journalist saying he looked “visibly stunned”, no quotes or videos or anything other then that
