    This is from https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/how-defence-has-propelled-lightning-into-a-cup-contender-once-again/.

Some other takeaways from the article:

    – Private expected goals models like the Moser – Raddysh pairing even more than public ones do, they’ve got a 65% expected goals share with Sportlogiq, Moneypuck has them at 61%, Jfresh’s site has them at 58.6%

    – D’Astous has the second lowest turnover rate of any defenseman, only Quinn Hughes is better. Also the best outlet pass completion rate, where outlet passes are up ice passes inside the defensive zone

    – Sportlogiq has Vasilevskiy as their 3rd best goalie in terms of goals saved above expectation and quality starts (games with more goals saved than expected)

So Jeff Blashill really was the problem?

Going to be interesting when old timers like Hedmann get back in the line up. If stuff goes south Cooper is going to have to make some interesting decisions.

Take away the stats and you can even just see the difference from the eye test. Last season, we were so chaotic in our own zone. Once teams got sustained offense we just looked like we were running around in a panic. The team just looks way calmer on defense this season and they do a way better job of getting the puck out of the zone quickly.

Getting rid of Blashill seriously turned this team around. Obviously some personnel changes helped but it’s actually crazy to see how different the team looks, whilst still playing a pretty aggressive defensive scheme.

This is by far the best we have ever played in front of Vasy. We used to hang him out to dry but he would go Super Hero mode
